What type of email account is it? When you say "custom", do you mean your own domain? If so, do you run an Exchange server?
I use Office 365 which basically is a hosted Exchange service from Microsoft. All I have to do is type in my name, email address and password and everything else is automatically retrieved. The same goes for gmail or Windows Live accounts so setting up a new account doesn't really involve all that much typing. Since I don't know what kind of email service you use and whether it's Exchange, IMAP or POP I can't say how much typing you would have to do in your case. If you have a Bluetooth keyboard it's also a lot faster and easier.
