I remember when leaving Bluetooth turned on would deplete the battery much
quicker.
However; it works just fine now and, I never turned Bluetooth off.

Hello,
What3Words isn't really accessible for VO users. It has a lot of unlabeled
buttons and a few other places that don't appear to be accessible. Just for the
heck of it, I gave it a try and promptly removed it.

RE: Lazarillo or BlindSquare

2019-09-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

The fact that What3Words uses 5 foot squares does not mean you get that
accuracy from your iPhone. I don’t think I have seen anything better than 3
metres which is about 10 feet. When I had my iPhone 4S in 2011 I at one point
bought a Garmin GPS receiver which was supposed to be better and even then 3
metres was the best I ever got under open skies. In cities between tall
buildings, under heavy cloud cover or under trees it maybe less and inside
buildings it is most likely even worse. It is my understanding that this also
is not because GPS isn’t capable of better accuracy but because the GPS system
is owned by the US military and they deliberately factor in a small amount of
inaccuracy for tactical reasons I assume.
Glonas which is the Russian satellite network and which the iPhone also uses I
assume is no different, but utilizing both systems does help in terms of how
many satellites the receiver can lock on to and this in turn provides a better
and more reliable signal..

Sieghard

Just a thought here,

There is an app called "what3words" which is free and boasts a 5 foot gps
accuracy. It labels the whole of the land surface of the world, generates via
computer, three words, rather than numbers, for every 3 metre square, or 10
foot square approx. It will link to BlindSquare and other gps apps, so, try it,
it might just give you that bit more fine tuning.

Yeah gps isn't too accurate. I was reading an

They both can do that.

But without physical landmarks, it would be hard to rely on GPS only.

Re: Lazarillo or BlindSquare

2019-09-15 Thread Dave
Hi, There is a relatively new app called Clew. Spelt C L E W.

I have heard it is a pretty good app, for remembering routs, and is fully
accessable with voiceover.

I don’t have the app myself, so can’t give more information, but might be worth
taking a look at.

Dave.

Given the accuracy, or lack there of, with GPS, you are going to be 50 to 100
feet off.

If you have perfect GPS satellite access, you might get within 30 feet.

That being said, have you tried dropping favorites with BlindSquare or
Lazarillo?

They both can do that.

But without physical landmarks, it would be hard to rely on GPS only.

Lazarillo allows you to set favorites.
Since it is free, give it a shot.
Given the limits of gps, it may be as good as anything else.

RE: Lazarillo or BlindSquare

2019-09-15 Thread Debby Hill
Hi Richard,
Thanks for reminding us about the Lazarillo app. I was just about to write to the list and ask about how to find my current location on my iPhone without having to talk to SIRI. This app seems to make that easy, even if I don't use it's other ⠋⠂⠞⠥⠗⠑⠎⠲ I looked for current location in Apple maps and Google maps, but couldn't find it easily or reliably. I need access to location  information because in the past I have been on cab and Lyft rides that went astray. In  cases like that I like to know where I am without having to speak out loud.
Thanks!

Yeah gps isn't too accurate. I was reading an article a while back about some new gps technology in the works that would give you accuracy within 3 feet, which is incredible. can't remember what the article was though hahaha. Have you guys tried an app called
 Clew? That's C L E W. uses AR for navigation. very interesting.

Re: Lazarillo or BlindSquare

2019-09-15 Thread Yohandy Rodriguez
Yeah gps isn't too accurate. I was reading an article a while back about
some new gps technology in the works that would give you accuracy within
3 feet, which is incredible. can't remember what the article was though
hahaha. Have you guys tried an app called Clew? That's C L E W. uses AR
for navigation. very interesting.

If you have perfect GPS satellite access, you might get within 30 feet.

That being said, have you tried dropping favorites with BlindSquare or
Lazarillo?

They both can do that.

But without physical landmarks, it would be hard to rely on GPS only.

like it. We live in a mobile home park, and it's absolutely
crazy-making finding our way from point A to point Be in here. We wish
to find an app that will allow us to drop bread crumbs so we know
