Thanks, guys, for all your help. I just pulled down the update for VDR
and tried loading something using File Browser. It downloaded really
quickly. But I'll keep Ian's suggestion about using the Share option
in my back pocket in case I run in to trouble loading stuff again.

When you’re on the app store updates page, make sure to refresh the screen.
Make sure you are at the very top of the page and perform a 3-finger swipe
down. Then recheck what updates might be available and hopefully you’ll see the
VDR update.

Have you installed Voice Dream Reader 4.94?
It came out yesterday.
I just added a zip file from file browser in VDR.

12.4.
An alternative way to add files from iCloud Drive is to find the file in the
Files app, then flick down several times and double tap on Share.
The Share sheet should include voice Dream Reader.
