I haven't used it for a little while but the last I knew, you could just place
two fingers around the centre of your screen and that would focus you on the
last read message. Do try it out!

This sounds like another focus issue with VoiceOver. I wish I knew of
a way to fix it; I've experienced the same thing in TweetList 4,
Tweetings, and the Settings app. Please consider emailing Apple
Accessibility and adding your voice to the issue, in hopes that they
will fix it quicker. Their
