It was not just impatience but I stay connected with my professional and
private world on iphone. I am glad it is working for now. My phone is charging
after I scraped the inside of the charging port with a pin. Not wise idea I
realize but it worked for me.

If the Lightning port is broken you are out of luck, the wireless charging
adapter Lois mentioned still needs to plug into the Lightning port. If you are
anywhere near an Apple Store I would go there, it could just be that there is
dirt in the port.
