I've never had anything start playing when I plug in earbuds.

I had to travel in my job a few years ago and we would rent a car, and most of
those were newer cars and I noticed that the ones that had the USB port double
as a connection to the speakers as well as providing power would start playing
music automatically.
I think that is some mysterious function of those units. Once I discovered
that, I just made sure I was ready to stop it as soon as it started.

As for the pausing a bard book and waiting too long and ending up with music, I
don't have an answer other than having to go back to bard on the phone and
manually start the book.

If it is a real annoyance, I would report it both to apple and to NLS.

Subject: disabling media control on locked screen -- or something like that

Not sure if the subject line really captures what I'm trying to ask. Hoping
someone can save my sanity. I rarely listen to the very few music files on my
phone. I don't want to delete them, but I get really annoyed how they often
actually start playing. For example, if I'm listening to a book on BARD, I can
use the remote on my earbuds to start and stop the book, But if I wait just a
bit too long, then press play, music will start playing. Also, each time I
plug in my earbuds or a USB cable in our car to play a book through our car
speakers, music is the default and starts blaring. If I'm listening actively
to an Audibl book, that will be the default thing that plays sometimes, which
can mean I miss part of the book if I wasn't aware it started playing. Is
there any way to change this default with the media control? If so, is there a
trade off to doing so, given that I rarely listen to music?

Using iPhone SE 2020 with IOS 14.4.
