Having used the iPad since its original launch, I've used the iPad1, iPad2 and
iPad no number, as well as now the Mini.
I find typing no different, if not easier, I never did, so to speak, touch type
on the iPad screen in landscape. I just held it in one hand and used the other
to type

I also find no particular benefit to the larger screen, I definitely like
having an iPad, but, the size of the screen is not such a winner in terms of
the iPad verse Mini.

I have them both and I think its all relative. The finger cramping is possible
on both iPads and the iPhone. I like the mini for portability and I use it for
an intermediate device. I can go from my phone to the mini to the full then to
my Air on up to the Retina and believe it or not all of
