although the first time was several years ago and Apple accessibility got me

True peace is not merely the absence of tension;
I'm so glad that worked. If this ever happens again, you don't need to unpair
anything. Just connect a keyboard or braille display, open an edit field, and
press the Eject key on the keyboard or Space with dots 146 (think sh for
Show/Hide keyboard).

Thanks, I did finally get the onscreen keyboard back. I had to unpair my
keyboard and braille display then pair the keyboard again, open an edit field
and type something using the bluetooth keyboard. Once I turned off the
bluetooth keyboard the onscreenkeyboard reappeared. It felt like a lot

I hope you've gotten your on screen keyboard back but if not, you might try
composing a new message, making sure you're in the edit field, and turning off
Voiceover with a triple press of the home button while you have one finger on
the edit field. Tap the edit field once with Voiceover

it is on, there is a button that if you accidentally bump it, will make the
on-screen keyboard hidden… Wonder if that’s the case with yours?
