When reading the message, do a pinching gesture. This should select either a
character, word or line. When you have at least something selected, you
should be able to find edit in the rotor. It won't show up

It may help if you explain in a bit more detail what exactly you want to do.
I think people are assuming you want to select text in this file, then copy
and it and paste it somewhere else. From what you wrote

Indeed, to select text you need to position yourself at the beginning of the
text that you want to select and then start selecting. You are right, it does
not select backwards.
As for selecting when you are not in an edit text, this is a new thing for me
to but I got it to work pretty

Step five should be select the copy option by flicking up or down after you are
in the edit rotor Setting.
