when a call is coming in, pressing the side button once silences the call
another words stops your phone from ringing or vibrating. Another press of the
side button sends them to voicemail.

If the phone rings and you wanted to go right away to voicemail, simply hit the
power button, that will send a call to voicemail.

I know this is a real rookie question, but I've never been in this situation
until today and I didn't know what to do. I got a call when I was in a
meeting and could not answer it. Normally I mute the phone in such a
situation so it vibrates but doesn't ring, therefore it can more easily
ignored.
