I don't think I have ever heard the date, just the time.
I have an iPhone 5s as my personal phone and an iPhone 5 for work and
neither one says the date.
I figure I know what the date is and never
that is the slide to unlock feature.
The key is, I have to go flick to get at the date at all.

Correction when I swipe right my iOS dive says the month and date not the year

Hey all, I have a question for a friend of mine. She has an iPhone 5s just like
I do, and we noticed that whenever her screen is locked and she checked the
time and date it will read the time but it won't read the date correctly.
Instead of it's saying something like May 12 it will just say 12.
If this helps, VoiceOver never reads the year in that case. Maybe the year
isn't written there. Another thing I would check is that the phone is set to a
language VoiceOver can read. If VoiceOver can only recognize numbers, that is
what it will read.

Sometimes my IPhone 4S says the date when I press the unlock button,, but
mostly if I want to get the date I hit the home button and then flick right
once and get the day and date.

it will have the date on it, for example, today
it says Monday, May 12. It’s underneath the time.
