Re: iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
Thanks for this explanation. I have a similar problem even without iTunes Match. I am subscribed to Apple Music, however there are songs which I own and were formerly present in my library which I can no longer see unless I turn off Apple Music. This service has so many things I like, it's a shame it is so buggy and full of odd quirks. Re: iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
All, After talking with several Apple tech support people, both at an Apple Store and through Apple Care, I think I have finally solved my issue. I talked with a tech support representative last night who said that in the current setup, one is unable to have both Apple Music and iTunes Match turned on at the same time. Apparently it is either one or the other. Once I turned Apple Music off from settings and then synced my phone, I was able to see all of my music once again. I don't know why this is just now happening to me, since I have somehow managed to make both services work up until now, perhaps it was something on Apple's end which allowed them to coexist. Whatever the case, the tech support person said that this was a known issue and there were other people who experienced the same sort of issue of their music disappearing from their devices after Apple Music started. With that in mind, I am going to look into keeping my music on my phone and keeping Apple Music. I do have a few albums which are not on Apple Music, but by and large, I can likely find a majority of the songs and albums from my collection on Apple Music. Given that I can add songs through Apple Music to My Music and add them to playlists, that should work for me. Plus, I'm not thrilled about turning Apple Music off in order to see my own songs. Thanks to everyone that offered help with this issue. Hopefully my experience will help someone else at some point. Hi Brett, I have Apple Music (not iTunes Match) and I am able to stream my own collection of music from the cloud, even tracks which are not available in Apple Music. I truly believe Apple Music includes all the features of iTunes Match. Re: iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
Thanks all for the input. An update on my situation. Someone at work told me to sign out and then back in to my account, which I did. I have also turned off iCloud Library in Settings, and for covering bases, also turned off Apple Music and then back on. No change. Grant, thanks for your ideas and suggestions. I haven't really used Time Machine on my Mac yet but this situation gives me a good reason too. I have made a Genius Bar appointment at my local Apple Store this Saturday to try and sort everything out. Since I did not find my music on the Mac, which was very disappointing, I'm beginning to think that I will have to establish my library and collection all over again. A tedius process to be sure. I have wondered during this process if one of the changes in iOS 9.3 might have caused part of the issue. I recall reading an article in January, which was widely circulated by the way, about the 9.3 beta. It said that Apple would be giving people more control over their music so that they did not have to use iTunes to manage music as much. I'm wondering if in the process of enabling this control, my entire library was mistakenly zapped. Anyway, that will be one of many questions that I ask the Apple Genius, along with what the point is of having iTunes Match if my music disappeared or will disappear after 6 months. I do have a few albums which I cannot find on Apple Music, but if I can keep a copy of the music on my Mac and carry that with me from phone to phone, then that might serve my purposes. With Apple Music turned back on, I can at least stream albums and currated playlists from Apple, which is tiding me over for now. Though I miss the vast collection. I have started to look into Google Play Music as an alternative, but the one big thing that Google doesn't have which Apple Music excells in are the curated playlists, such as "intro to," "deep cuts from," and so forth. Yes, its pretty much duplication these days. The only reason you would want it these days is if you have music that cannot be found on Apple music, if you iTumes match it you can stream it on any of your iDevices. It is also a good way to ucgrade dodgy music to better quality, but that's less necessary these days with streaming services offering simelar quality. Cheers, Brett. Re: iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
Hello Wayne, Do you know if the songs are actually gone from your music library, or is it just your playlists that are messed up? I’ve used iTunes Match, and now Apple Music, since they first became available. I’ve seen lots of issues with the contents of playlists suddenly being lost and unfortunately the damaged playlists quickly propagate to iTunes for Windows and Mac. If you have a copy of iTunes that has a correct copy of your playlists, then you can use that machine to recover them. Disable the internet connection, fire up iTunes, and export all of your playlists which you can do by going into the file menu while focussed on a playlist, choosing the library submenu, then choosing the “export playlist” option. This will be a backup, and I’d recommend doing this every now and then. Then, duplicate all your playlists, which can be done from the context menu while focussed on a playlist. Give them slightly different names. Then, you can re-establish the internet connection and let your new playlists sync up to the cloud and this should happen correctly. If it does, you can eventually delete the old playlists. If it doesn’t, you have the exported playlists as a backup. If the playlists are already corrupt on all your machines, there’s one more thing to look at. iTunes regularly creates a file called iTunes Music Library.xml which is located in your iTunes directory. It contains the contents of your playlists along with other info about your iTunes library. If you happen to have an old version of this file from a backup (e.g. if you use Time Machine on a Mac), you can re-import it into iTunes which will recreate all your playlists. I believe you do this from the “import playlist” item in the library submenu under the file menu. If the songs are completely gone from your library, then I’m not sure what to say. Either way, be sure to let Apple know that these issues are happening! This Email is very brief so please let me know if you want clarification on anything. It is based only on my personal experience of dealing with these issues every now and then, so if you try to follow these instructions and you lose music or data, I very much apologize. This may be a dumb idea but have you gone into the settings of your phone to see if the settings changed for match or apple music? Maybe something got turned off? If you can’t get it resolved, I’d definitely consider calling apple support. It is, but with Apple Music you get DRM copies, as opposed to iTunes match which isn't DRM. Re: iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
A few months ago, iTunes match raised its limit to 50,000 as well. So no difference there. I haven't checked since upgrading to 9.3. I also haven't specifically added any Apple Music to my library. And I did that because of all that mess with iTunes match last year. Good luck getting your stuff back. Do you have it all on your Mac. Maybe you could re-sync with your Mac or your Windows PC and that would get it back for you. Mary Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 22, 2016, at 6:16 AM, Wayne Merrittwrote: > > Greetings all. Short of doing a complete restore, does anyone have any ideas how I can get my music back from iTunes Match? I'm not sure if this is specific to iTunes Match or Apple Music since I subscribe to both. Whatever the case, it is extremely frustrating and makes me wonder if iTunes Match is worth the time, especially if the songs are going to suddenly disappear after 5 or 6 months. On a related note, does anyone use Google Play Music and if so how do you like it? What do you like and not like about Play Music? It looks similar to the Apple offerings, except that with Play Music, you can store up to 50,000 songs for free. That alone is tempting. iOS 9.3, Apple Music and iTunes Match
Greetings all. I updated my iPhone 6S to iOS 9.3 last night. Last fall I had signed up for iTunes Match in order to keep all my songs in a digital locker in the cloud and take with me to future phones. I've done several iOS updates since then without a problem. Last night though, to my utter shock, nearly all of the 4,200 songs in my collection, along with the around 800 songs that I have added to playlists from Apple Music, had disappeared. Over the last few months, I have setup several playlists for different things, like love songs, worship music, Christmas music, and "all songs" which has everything in my collection. It was quite a shock to see the All Songs playlist go from around 4,200 songs to 139 songs, or the Hard and Heavy playlist go from 330 songs to just 2 songs. I've got the 4,200 songs on an external drive, but not the Apple Music that I've saved. I've spent a long time tediously deleting what I don't want from my collection and don't look forward to doing it all over again. Short of doing a complete restore, does anyone have any ideas how I can get my music back from iTunes Match? I'm not sure if this is specific to iTunes Match or Apple Music since I subscribe to both.
