As for music production try Garage Band. Haven't tried the other one
mentioned here.

I'm not sure the iPad is the best choice for music production because of the
limitation of the microphones you can use. But, if you find a microphone that
you are happy with that works with the iPad, I'd recommend Gigdaddy multitrack
music editing app.
I think it is all of $2.99.
