Also, as far as I know this only works if Voiceover is running and it’s 
definitely not a recommended method and apparently it can lead to corruption of 
apps and/or data on your phone.

Absolutely no reason to reboot unless you like it, tht is daily reboots. 

Most times when you encounter something strange just press the lock switch 5 
times or 6 to be sure and the phone will reboot without a restart.

This method crashes the springboard forcing a partial reboot. Apple does not 
recommend it. It only works when VO is active and should be considered a bug, 
not a valid way of rebooting the iDevice. It is the only method which ever 
damaged an app on my iPhone 3 years ago. Use it at your own risk.

There are mixed opinions on that method.
Most say not to do that as it adds needless wear and tear on the lock switch.
But, for questions like this, I always recommend calling Apple and getting a 
direct answer from them.
