It’s 20 cells. The folks at National Braille Press assured  me that they had 
seen instances of the device pairing successfully with the phone, but despite 
much effort on their and my part, I could never get it to work. I also thought 
the display made a fair amount of noise as the dots refresh. Still, if it had 
worked with my phone I’d have kept it cheerfully.

 

It is also possible that they have upgraded the software or the firmware on the 
device since the summer when I bought mine.
