RE: Now available, was: New Instant Pot WiFi - how did that one slip by the list?

2018-11-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Check the thread, Rick posted a message and said he directly knew one or two
people who had already bought it and found that the app had some accessibility
issues and was definitely not as good as the old smart cooker app. I'm sure
the Instant Pot itself is just fine, but it looks like hopefully there will be
improvements made in the app.

Can someone please explain to me what an Insta pot is. How does that work? Is
that like a crockpot? What kind of things does it cook?

Hi Len, Don and others,

I just noticed that the new Instant Pot Smart WiFi was now in stock and
available to ship on the Amazon Canada website and when I went to
Amazon.com it seems that it is now also listed and available
to ship.

In Canada it is $199.99 Canadian and in the US $145.35 US, at the current
exchange rate the US and Canadian prices are pretty much right on.

Below are the links, of course since we are now only a little over a week away
from Black Friday I will wait and hope I can score a better deal on this.

As far as I know it is accessible. The app is a little bit of a pain
but it's new so I am sure those issues will be sorted.

Re: Now available, was: New Instant Pot WiFi - how did that one slip by the list?

2018-11-13 Thread Rick Alfaro
Hi Sieghard and others. I personally kknow 2 people that have already
recieved the Instant Pot WiFi model and here is what they are telling me.

1. It uses a different app like others have already mentioned. It uses
an app  called Instant Pot and not the Smart Cooker that some of us use
with the BlueTooth model.

2. Using this app, setting up the pot fore the first time is pretty much
accessible with VO. Unfortunately, the Dashboard portion of the app
apparently has some very serious accessibility issues when used with
VoiceOver. The info that most of us deem as most important isn't visible
to VO. These are things like time remaining, and other bits of info that
one would need to easily monitor the status of what you are cooking,
things that are perfectly accessible in the Smart Cooker app for the BT
model.

Both of the individuals have already contacted Instant Pot to report the
issues they are having with the new app. As far as I know, there has
been no response as of yet. I think if enough people contact them
regarding these issues, some ground can be gained. I would also urge
that anyone purchasing this model and finding it lacking in
accessibility post their reviews on Amazon. Many of these manufacturers
really do monitor Amazon reviews and pay attention to them.

My BlueTooth model is still working quite well so I haven't purchased
the WiFi model but will probably do so once my BT model stops working
for me.

Hey Mary, no offense, but you aalso complaint terribly about Face Id and how
you would hang on to your iPhone 7, next thing you had an iPhone XR and you
said Face Id worked well for you even with the attention feature which
previously you assumed most blind people would have to disable etc.
If the app is in fact not good and Instant Pot gets enough bad reviews it is
more likely than not that they will make improvements and it certainly would
not discourage me from buying the new Smart Wi-Fi model, but just because an
app has some bad reviews that does not necessarily mean I shouldn't buy it or
make assumptions if I don't even own it.
I remember how when I first started buying Sonos gear in 2009 the app was
really terrible and barely useable for a blind person and look at it now,
perfect accessibility and a product which consistently gets the best reviews.
Look at the Ring Video Doorbell, it gets' super reviews for the most part, but
while recently it works somewhat better, it was always a so-so experience for
Voiceover users and often I was not able to answer the doorbell quick enough
before the visitor had already walked away and I don't consider myself an
inexperienced iPhone user.
You can always look at the glass being half full or half empty.

Sieghard

The app has bad reviews. I don’t have that particular model of pot, since I
have the older Bluetooth one. But everybody is complaining about the app, the
bad layout and how recipes open instead of letting you scroll. Hopefully the
main part of the app, the dashboard where you can monitor stuff, is as
accessible as the older app. Also, for those who have both I devices and
android, there is an android app.

The instant pot is an electric pressure cooker. But it could also do other
things, such as making yogurt or do slow cooking, or substitute as your rice
cooker although I haven’t had much luck with that last one. Others have.

Hi Mary,

Sorry, but I didn't mean to come down hard on you, I was just pointing out that
you do tend to focus on negative aspects of a product and I don't think I'm the
only person who has noticed that.
The reviews I saw were old and could not possible refer to how this app works
together with the new Instant Pot WiFi which was released so recently that even
those who jumped on it right away may only have just received it and most will
probably get it next week if they ordered it right away As I said, going
through the app I saw that the Smart Bluetooth is listed so I guess you can
always download the app and set it up with your Smart Bluetooth model and test
it first hand. Of course you do have to create an account and since I gather
this Is not something you are willing to do you may not be able to use the new
app.
I more or less expect it with smart devices, I own quite a few from thermostats
to doorlocks, video doorbells, Philips Hue lights, security cameras at my
store, Alexa and Sonos devices, my Nokia (previously Withings) smart scale and
so on and there is not a single device where I didn't have to set up an account
or sign in with one if I already had one as in the case of the Alexa or Sonos
devices. Sure Instant Pot is going to use your information as do they all, but
I certainly won't single them out if everybody else is doing the same thing.

The folks who were complaining, and there weren’t a lot of reviews which is
understandable, were mostly on about the fact that when you try to scroll
through the list of recipes, they opened instead of letting you scroll. That
might not affect us as voiceover users. Also, people were complaining about
having to do a lot of switching among screens because ingredients are here,
instructions are there, etc. Since I don’t have the app, I can’t comment from
personal experience. Also, there were some complaints about the fact that you
have to set up an account in order to get access. That is an open window for
lots of on wanted advertising. The older app, the one I have, did not make you
do that. So I think those folks may have a very valid complaint. You shouldn’t
have to set up an account in order to access the features of your app an open
yourself up to a blizzard of unwanted crap.

Hi again,

Jim, here is what I found on the app store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instant-pot/id1236561148?mt=8

It's interesting because when I look at this on the computer the app gets
only 2.1 out of 5 Stars although some of the very negative reviews are
negative because the reviewer didn't like the fact that he or she was
supposed to create an account.
When I pull this up in the App Store on my iPhone a lot of the bad reviews
are from a year ago whereas the app was updated just over a week ago, on
November 2, 2018, here is the short description:
Instant Pot Recipe App v2.0.4 is Now Available!
- 750+ Recipes catering to all tastes
- Print functionality
- Smart WiFi Cooker Support
Plus, enhancements to continue to enhance your user experience!
It also says the following on my iPhone: This apps' summary rating was
recently reset

There is also another app from Instant Pot called "Instant Pot Smart Cooker
and Recipes in the Food and Drink category.
That app gets even worse ratings at 1.6 stars from 10 ratings and while the
version number is higher than the other one, 2.3.2 versus 2.0.4, it was last
updated on March 17, 2016, over two and a half years ago, here is the
description:
The Smart Cooker app works with Instant Pot Smart smartcooker. It allows you
controling and monitoring the cooker wirelessly via Bluetooth connection.
The app comes with a collection of recipes covering a large variety of food
materials, cuisines and techniques. The recipes include traditional ones
such
as "New England Clam Chowder" and "Classic Mashed Potatoes" as well as
intriguing ones such as "Onsen Tamago: Hot Spring egg (sous vide egg)" and
"GABA
Rice: Germinated Brown Rice".

Sieghard

the main part of the app, the dashboard where you can monitor stuff, is as

The app has bad reviews. I don't have that particular model of pot, since I
have the older Bluetooth one. But everybody is complaining about the app,
the bad layout and how recipes open instead of letting you scroll. Hopefully
the main part of the app, the dashboard where you can monitor stuff, is as
accessible as the older app. Also, for those who have both I devices and
android, there is an android app.

Hi Mary,

Sorry, but I didn't mean to come down hard on you, I was just pointing out that
you do tend to focus on negative aspects of a product and I don't think I'm the
only person who has noticed that.
The reviews I saw were old and could not possible refer to how this app works
together with the new Instant Pot WiFi which was released so recently that even
those who jumped on it right away may only have just received it and most will
probably get it next week if they ordered it right away
As I said, going through the app I saw that the Smart Bluetooth is listed so I
guess you can always download the app and set it up with your Smart Bluetooth
model and test it first hand. Of course you do have to create an account and
since I gather this Is not something you are willing to do you may not be able
to use the new app.

What is the name of the app that you are looking at? I have the smart
cooker app. and the instant pot app. I usually use the smart cooker app to
cook with. Which one had the update last week? In the app called instant
pot I have seen no way to cook with the instant pot except using recipes.

Hi Mary,

Just reading about things always brings with it the danger that you may happen
to read something written by somebody who doesn't know what they are talking
about.
The old app a worse rating than the new one if you compare 1.6 to 2.1 Stars.
Anyhow, I don't yet have the new Instant Pot WiFi, but I was curious so I
downloaded the new app and the setup as far as I was able to go which included
creating an account, naming non-existent Instant Pot, setting a WiFi key for it
and all that was perfectly accessible.
The last screen I was able to access after doing all this gave me a list of
Instant Pots which I assume are compatible with the app. The new Instant Pot
WiFi was at the top of that list, but it also listed other models which don't
have any smart connectivity and the Instant Pot Smart Bluetooth was also listed.
I tapped on the new Wi-Fi model and after that I was supposed to push the Wi-Fi
button on the Instant Pot for 3 seconds and press continue. I tapped continue
anyways and I was then instructed to go to my Wi-Fi settings and connect to the
Instant Pot network which now should be showing up there, then return to the
app and finish the set up. This is very standard for many Wi-Fi connected
devices such as thermostats, light switches etc. , but of course I don't have
the Instant Pot yet so I closed the app at this point. Once I have the Instant
Pot I guess I'll see where it starts up when I re-open the app.
Instant Pot support told me almost a year ago that when the new Wi-Fi model
comes out accessibility would not be forgotten and in any case, I wonder how
all these people can rate the app and Instant Pot Wi-Fi experience when it just
started shipping, I think on Amazon Canada it said something about November 8
which was just last Thursday so even people who placed their order then and got
it the next day would have only just received it.
I for one will simply wait until either I can test it myself or others who
order the new Wi-Fi connected Instant Pot and receive it report on how well or
not well it works, to repeat things I read or assumed doesn't make much sense
to me, you can find bad reviews for even really good products. If we weren't 10
days away from Black Friday I would have already ordered it, but if I end up
being able to pick it up for $50 less than why not, it's not like I will starve
and I have waited almost a year for it to come out so another 10 days won't
hurt.

For this new part, they have a new app. I also have a smart cooker app, and as
you noted, it’s quite accessible. I never fooled with the programmed in
recipes. But this new one is supposed to have 750 recipes programmed in already
to the app. So that could be kind of a big deal, and it is not the same app,
and it does not have retro connectivity. At least according to what I read in
the app reviews. So you can’t get a new app and get access to all those recipes
for your Bluetooth model.

Yes, the Wi-Fi model is available on Amazon for $146. It is a 6 quart model.
According to what I have read, it sounds like it has buttons on the front like
the other instant pots did before the one that turned out not to be very
accessible. And there is an app. And that app enables you to do what you could
do with Bluetooth app, except over Wi-Fi. It also has many more recipes
programmed into it. But the reviewer‘s who review this app on the App Store
were not happy with it. No comments were made about Accessibility.

2018-11-12 Thread Mary Otten
Well, seek hard, for what it’s worth, I still like the home button and touch ID
better than face ID. And I don’t know why you have to come off so hard. After
all, I was only reporting what I read on the App Store, not offering my
personal opinion, since I do not have this new instant pot nor the app. It’s
just that the reviews were all, or almost all, really bad. But they did not
comment on Accessibility. By the way, I posted a review of this pot a full day
before you did, but apparently my post did not make it to the list. Mine came
from a pressure cooker list that I’m on, where the person Making the post was
really happy with the device. It’s probably a good device. And the dashboard
part of the app, if it is like the older app, will hopefully be really
accessible. But the reviews on the App Store reviewing the new app we’re not
happy. What can I say? If you don’t like that and you like to equate my posting
something that I read with my personal opinion OK. But I wish she would lay
off. It doesn’t really make for people wanting to post anything when they get
dumped on.

2018-11-12 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
The smart cooker app is the one I use for my bluetooth model. It's completely
accessible. I don't know what else it's supposed to do or if folks simply don't
like the way it looks. It gives you access to what you need. We've got the
bluetooth model and another 8 quart one that my wife uses. If we didn't
already have these two, I might have been tempted into trying to score this new
wifi one, but so far it's working perfectly fine for me and the app is still
nice and accessible.
Now that I have access to the pressure cooker, I don't think I'd ever go back
to something without some sort of connectivity feature. Buttons and all that
are fine and I’m sure one could get by with some labeling and menu
memorization, but just being able to monitor time remaining or how long it's
been on warm for me instead of trying to guess makes it absolutely worth it for
me.
We want to get my in-laws in Brandenburg an Instant Pot, but it seems for
whatever reason it's not available in the Amazon.de store. We'll keep on
checking to see if it comes back. Hopefully it'll show up more for Christmas
season.

I am sure we could contact them about making the app a bit more
accessible if it has issues.

2018-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,

Hi Len, Don and others,

I just noticed that the new Instant Pot Smart WiFi was now in stock and
available to ship on the Amazon Canada website and when I went to Amazon.com it
seems that it is now also listed and available to ship.

In Canada it is $199.99 Canadian and in the US $145.35 US, at the current
exchange rate the US and Canadian prices are pretty much right on.

Below are the links, of course since we are now only a little over a week away
from Black Friday I will wait and hope I can score a better deal on this.

Instant Pot Smart WiFi on Amazon.com

Best regards,

Although I own the last one right before it stopped selling it, I have many
students who keep asking for this if its available again.

Subject: Now available, was: New Instant Pot WiFi - how did that one slip by
the list?

Hi Len, Don and others,

I just noticed that the new Instant Pot Smart WiFi was now in stock and
available to ship on the Amazon Canada website and when I went to Amazon.com it
seems that it is now also listed and available to ship.

In Canada it is $199.99 Canadian and in the US $145.35 US, at the current
exchange rate the US and Canadian prices are pretty much right on.

Below are the links, of course since we are now only a little over a week away
from Black Friday I will wait and hope I can score a better deal on this.

Best regards,

I noticed the same thing, how sad. Maybe we can all take a field trip to Canada
to get these and hang with some awesome people up there. lol
