Re: iPad questions

2019-05-08 Thread Richard Turner

Is this an iPad one or 2?
I'm not sure, but if it cannot be updated to a more recent iOS, perhaps
Jonathan Mosen's book iOS without the Eye for iOS 9 could still be available.
Perhaps turning on Braille input within the VoiceOver settings would work.
Braille on an iPad could be tricky, but give it a shot if it is there under
rotor settings.
Good luck,
Richard

Hi Arlene,

Yes, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, there is a setting that will allow

You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a

Mike, if she has her heart set on an ipad, an ipad mini might be best. We
looked at the other sizes of ipads, and the ipad mini is such a good size
device. With digits she can use it very well for a stand alone phone, and the
ipad doesn't need to be near another device such as an iphone, Providing that
she would have the internet mobile service from t-mobile it would be very much
like a cell phone. If she didn't have the internet mobile service then it
would work like a skype phone meaning that you would have to be connected with
a wifi connection or connection through a hotspot. At that point digits is
about $10 to $25 at the most of which you would need to talk to t-mobile about
the details, of which this is much like other internet phone services. The
quality of the service is very good. Considering the difficulties with her
hands, if someone you all know has an ipad she could test out for a while to
see if she can take to it, that might be good for a period of time before she
goes through with getting an ipad. Also I'm considering with her coming from
her using the button phone. Not knowing all the details about her, the
coordination of her fingers on the touch screen with all of the swipes and so
on might be sort of difficult with the screen being so sensitive to the touch.
Possibly using a keyboard with the ipad that might be what she needs.

This is what we know. There is an app, it's called digits. This is from
t-mobile. Digits can be very easily installed on an ipad. Then you can make and
receive phone calls. This requires t-mobile service for digits to work. This is
our understanding, in order for digits to work any time, anywhere, you have to
have a mobile internet line from t-mobile, however, if you don't have a mobile
internet line digits would work just as good on a wifi connection. If you're
somewhere and you don't have a wifi, but you do have a device with hotspot in
it you can connect the ipad to the hotspot and it will work just fine. We do
have digits on our ipad and we just canceled our mobile internet line since
it continues to work fine on our wifi. If we ever have a need to take the ipad
anywhere we could just use one of our phones as a hotspot or find a wifi
connection. While you can have an ipad and it could be everything, including a
phone, when it comes to phones we prefer to use our iphones. What's great is
having all these different options. To get more detailed information about
digits I recomend that you call t-mobile. The t-mobile number is 800-866-2453.

You cannot make phone calls with an iPad whether it has cellular or not. The
cellular means you can use it for GPS or internet access when not on WiFi.
Is there a reason not to simply get an iPhone?
The interface is the same, you have a smaller screen area so the dexterity
would be less of an issue, and you can do everything including make phone calls.

The iPad Mini 4 is a good suggestion if you decide on an iPad. If you go with
cellular, you will still be paying for a data plan.
Of course, you can use Skype or FaceTime to make calls to other Skype or
FaceTime users.

She can talk with t-mobile about their digits service that she could use with
the ipad that she decides that's best for her. Digits is phone service you can
have on the ipad. I have a ipad mini, which works very well with digits, and
the phone sound is good quality, and it needs to be an ipad that takes a sim
card. Including the data plan it costs about $35 a month. Without the data you
might be able to use it on wifi and with the wifi it would be $10 a month.
T-mobile can give you all the details. While that's all you would need is the
ipad with digits, I also have an iphone. So the way that it works, the digits
is my cell phone number too, so when a call comes in I could either answer the
call on the ipad or the phone, though you do not have to have an iphone to use
digits.

Mike, is it possible to get your friend to your local or state center for

your friend with hands on evaluations for the various options.

Yes, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, there is a setting that will allow
you to receive calls on the iPad if the iPhone is in range.

You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a
call, again if the iPhone is in range.

But, without an iPhone, you would use FaceTime or Skype.

As for text messages, you can text using your email address to other Apple
device owners with an iPad, but I do not think you can text to a non-Apple
device. That one I'm not sure of, so take that with a grain of salt.

I agree on this but just want to add my two cents. I have no mobility problems

smaller to carry around and you only need one device. This is, of course just

Actually what I'm trying to talk her into is to borrow an iPhone or iPad and
play around with each of them to find out what level of difficulty she might
have with either device. Going by what anyone suggests will not be good
since only she knows the amount of dexterity she has and by actual useage
she can determine which device puts the least amount of stress on her hands
/ fingers. She will also need to determine if the braces she wears on each
thumb will hinder her in any way with gestures. I want to thank you all

decision on her own to a large degree.

Re: iPad Questions

2018-04-09 Thread Mike B.
This person has never had a computer of any nature because of her hand
problems, & I'm trying to talk her into getting an iPhone over the iPad, but
for some reason she wants an iPad. Maybe now when I read her these messages
she'll change her mind. She uses a Revere cell phone that she would for
phone calls, but like all of you, I feel the iPhone would be her best
option! Phoning, texting, dictation, she would have it all, but I can't
speak for her, & I don't know just how limited her hand useage is. Thanks
again for all your input.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Correct, you can’t send regular SMS messages with an iPad unless you also
have an iPhone on the same WiFi network or you are using some sort of app. I
believe in the US google Voice would allow you to use your iPad much like a
phone.

Yes, if you have an iPhone and an iPad, there is a setting that will allow you

You can also double tap on a contact phone number on the iPad and make a call,

But, without an iPhone, you would use FaceTime or Skype.
As for text messages, you can text using your email address to other Apple

Hi Maria,

Thank you very much for your input. I'm going to assume that if she can
email with this iPad, she'll be able to send text messages with it as well.
Am I correct with this assumption? Thanks again.

Hi, the iPad does have dictation and email. I recommend she gets the iPad
Mini 4. I have the mini 2, but it doesn't have all the somewhat recent
hardware. I think she will need her phone with her to make phone calls.

Hi All,

I have absolutely no knowledge about iPads, so here goes. A friend is blind
with hand dexterity problems, & was told by others not to get the large
iPad, but to get the midsize or small iPad. From doing a little research
you can get these iPads with WiFi or with WiFi & cellular. If we get her
one with WiFi & celular will she be able to make phone calls with the iPad?
Do the mini iPads have dictation for texting & emailing like the iPhones?
When we buy her this iPad does it matter who we buy it from, i.e, should we
buy it from her cell carrier, Apple or other wise...? All input will be
gratefully accepted & greatly appreciated. Thank y'all very much.

Re: iPad Questions

2018-04-09 Thread Richard Turner
You cannot make phone calls with an iPad whether it has cellular or not. The
cellular means you can use it for GPS or internet access when not on WiFi.
Is there a reason not to simply get an iPhone?
The interface is the same, you have a smaller screen area so the dexterity
would be less of an issue, and you can do everything including make phone calls.

The iPad Mini 4 is a good suggestion if you decide on an iPad. If you go with
cellular, you will still be paying for a data plan.
Of course, you can use Skype or FaceTime to make calls to other Skype or
FaceTime users.

Re: iPad questions

2013-08-23 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

question 1. Its saying thumbnail width, not whip. This is said along with
other spacial information when you do a 3 finger single tap on the screen. For
example. If your on the first app on your home screen, voiceover will report
the place of voiceover focus and say row 1 column 1(position of the app) the
page the app is on, thumbnail width, (the size of the object in focus, etc.

Question 2. A side bar is a pop up on the screen. Some times instead of going
to a new page when you double tap on something, a new window will appear.

3. Like others have mentioned, a part of your hand that is holding the device
is probably coming in contact with the screen. This is pretty easy to do with
an iPad I’ve found.

4. In a nut shell, its harder to put apps on top of on one another because
there is more space in between app icons on your home screen. Voiceover tells
you your finger is on an app before you are physically on it with your finger.
This is fine for opening apps, but you need to actually be on it to create
folders.

Hi,

I can sort of answer some of your questions.

You need to get into an edit field such as the search field. Now use the roter
to get to typing mode. Then swipe up and down to switch between the two.

Putting apps into folders is very tricky on the iPad. It takes a lot of
practice.

I'm sorry I'm not too much help, but I can assure you it can be done.

go to setting; general; accessibility; voiceover.

Not sure by your screen sensativity question. I have not encounter such
problem to say the least. Perhaps is the way you use some of the gestures.

To activate touch typing, go to rotor; eddit; typing mode; and chooose
between standard typing or touch typing. depends on how you set it up,
typing mode can be one of the rotor option.

Foulder can be create, but it takes practice and also good screen orientation.

RE: ipad questions

2013-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Stephanie,

As far as the email account, just go to Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars,
double tap on the account you want to delete and then double tap on Delte
which is the very last button so you can do a 4-finger tap near the bottom
of the screen to jump to it immediately.
Now double tap on Add, select Gmail as the account type and fill in the
information (user name, password etc.)

As for syncing apps, go to Settings, iTunes and App Store, then turn off
what you don't want to sync between devices, you have 3 choices, Music, Apps
and Books. If you turn Apps off on your iPad and buy an app on your iPhone
or computer it will not sync automatically.

Sieghard

Hi all,
I have an iphone 4s and an ipad 3.
I have some questions and have no idea how to dix this.
First of all, How do I delete the default gmail account and put another
email account on my ipad? I don't want to use my apple id address to send
emails but an address from my studio website which I want as the default
email account.
Also, how do I stop my apps from syncing from my iphone to my ipad?
Thanks,
Steph

and to make an email account the default, go into Settings - Mail,
Contacts, Calendars and jump by heading or flick to the right until you
get into the Mail section and at the bottom of that section, double tap
on Default Account. Now you can change which email account is your default.

RE: iPad questions

2012-09-29 Thread Cristobal
The biggest thing probably to get used to are the containers on the iPad.
They're basically frames on the screen. Other than that, and for a few
exceptions such as pinching, four finger swiping, etc. gestures are the
same.

If your need isn't immediate, I would perhaps suggest waiting a few extra
weeks to see when or if Apple's going to introduce their mythical iPad Mini
sometime in October. The iPad's great and all, but in my case, I find myself
more often than not going to my iPhone for most of my tasks that don't
involve being out and about and using my iPad more like a laptop just
because of the size of the screen you need two hands instead of one.

Hi everyone.
I'm going to be getting an iPad soon, and I have a few questions. I
understand that there are some gestures which are iPad specific. Where can I
specifically learn about these? Is there anything else I should know in
terms of screen layout for apps like settings, the app store, or any apps
which come standard with the iPad? Lastly, I'd like to get a speaker dock
which will accommodate the iPad. I realize that I have an abundance of
bluetooth options. However, I'd like to be able to physically dock the iPad
so that I can charge it while listening to books, watching movies, etc.
Thanks so much.

Go to iBlindTech.com, look under Democast for an episode (maybe episode 7? I
can't recall) that is specific for iPad gestures.
