What's happening is that the rotor is switching from Messages to Actions. You 
can turn it back to Messages and then flick down. Also, if you flick down to 
the next message and then flick down with two fingers to have it read, the 
rotor stays on Messages, so you can flick down to the next one without changing 
the rotor. If you flick right while reading a message, the rotor switches to 
Actions.

While focus is on the message body, use the rotor counterclockwise to locate 
messages and then perform a one finger swipe up or down to change to the next 
message.
