Hi Steve. You won't find that right on the status bar. Instead, you go to your Today view. From page 2 of your home screen, flick right with three fingers and you'll get to the Today view. From there, find the battery heading and you'll find details on your iOS device's battery level as well as your airpods. If you put one airpod in the case, you can seee how much charge the case has remaining. The other option is to ask Siri about your Airpods battery level. Hope that helps.
