Are you aware that the iOS mail app has a "Messages" rotor item? When you open a message in a thread make sure the rotor is set to Messages, then flick up or down with one finger and Voiceover announces if you are on message 1 of 5, 2 of 5 etc (that is of course assuming there are 5 messages in
