I'm not sure which bug they were referring to; but the one I'm still bothered
by is still there.
When you turn the rotor to messages and flick down say to message 3 of 5, focus
may jump back to message 1 or 2. It can take two or three tries to get the
focus to stick on the third message; or the 5th out of 10 etc.

Download iOS 12.2 Today and Try Out These New Features By David
Murphy, Monday 5:30pm

Right on cue-it being Apple announcement day and all-the services-oriented tech
giant has released the latest version of its iOS operating system. If you don't
already have it, or have yet to receive the notification that an iOS update is
available, simply tap on your Settings app > General > Software Update to begin
the download. It'll take a while; it took me about an hour or so to download
and install the update on a reasonably fast internet connection.
While you wait, here are some of the big features you can look forward to with
the update.

Apple News+
You can now pay Apple $10/mo to consolidate your many magazine subscriptions
into a single digital package. If you're on the fence about Apple's offering,
you do get a one-month trial to play around with the new service.
Don't forget to cancel it if you don't want it, however, as you'll
automatically be billed for the next month's subscription if you forget.
And, as Apple noted today, you can share your subscription with up to six
family members via Apple's Family Sharing feature. Anyone feel like adopting me?

Canada finally gets Apple News
Stop the presses. Canadian Apple fans can now read the news via Apple's
self-titled app-either in French or English, of course.

More silly Animoji
If you like turning your head into animals and sending quirky little virtual
videos (or pictures, if you just tap your fake noggin) to your friends, you're
in luck. You now get a giraffe, a shark, a warthog, and an owl.
(Hey, Apple: Open up an "App Store for Animoji" and let other people
create safe-for-work virtual creations. You could probably make even
more services
revenue.)

Siri and Apple TV
Update your Apple TV to tvOS 12.2, and your iOS device(s) to iOS 12.2, and
you'll be able to control what's on your Apple TV with a lot more granularity.
As MacRumors notes:
"tvOS 12.2, when paired with iOS 12.2, is designed to allow users to ask Siri
to play specific media on an Apple TV from an iOS device. You can, for example,
ask Siri to play Modern Family on the TV in the living room, or Pitch Perfect
on the TV in the bedroom. This feature is available for music, TV shows, and
movies."

That "5G E" icon
If you're an AT subscriber, you might see a new "5G E" icon in the
upper-right corner of your iPhone. You can now brag to your friends that you
have an even better mobile connection than they do, and they can remind you
that "5G E" is just AT's bullshit way to say "faster LTE," since your iPh

One feature I thought was interesting:
Apple has boosted the quality of the audio messages you leave in Messages by
adopting a different codec (Opus) at 24000 Hz instead of the previous AMR
Narrowband codec at 8000 Hz. Neat.
This is actually not neat, it's about time because I always thought it was

This is a simple one, but Apple has boosted the quality of the audio messages

2019-03-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Each has its advantages, you may not be able to lock the record button in the
Messages app, but I like the fact that I can record an audio message and listen
to it before I send it if I feel so inclined. In WhatsApp the message gets sent
as soon as you let go of the button or tap Send if you have it locked.
Also a nice feature in iMessage is the raise to speak feature. I think you have
to first send a message before this starts working, but then if you get a reply
and you want to in turn reply with another voice message you can just raise
your phone to your ear and it starts recording and in this case it is hands
free, speak your message with the phone against your ear and then simply take
it away to send it.

Sieghard

Same thing I said about time. That made me so mad for ages. It's a lot better
than it use to be for sure. I still prefer whatsapp because you can lock the

Same thing I said about time. That made me so mad for ages. It's a lot
better than it use to be for sure. I still prefer whatsapp because you
can lock the record button.

2019-03-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
One feature I thought was interesting:
Apple has boosted the quality of the audio messages you leave in Messages by
adopting a different codec (Opus) at 24000 Hz instead of the previous AMR
Narrowband codec at 8000 Hz. Neat.
This is actually not neat, it's about time because I always thought it was
incredibly ridiculous for Apple, who always claims to put such focus on
quality, to offer this audio message feature where a message you recorded
sounded like ti was a recording from a 1990's era answering machine recording
on a mini cassette tape. I never used this feature and would use WhatsApp
instead because at least my recording was high quality.
I'll have to try this out and if it's in fact good quality audio now I might
use this feature more.

Download iOS 12.2 Today and Try Out These New Features By David Murphy, Monday
5:30pm

(Hey, Apple: Open up an "App Store for Animoji" and let other people create
safe-for-work virtual creations. You could probably make even more services

You can now brag to your friends that you
have an even better mobile connection than they do, and they can remind you
that "5G E" is just AT's bullshit way to say "faster LTE," since your iPhone
(as of when we wrote this) doesn't actually support 5G connectivity whatsoever.
Isn't friendship grand.

Higher-quality audio Messages
This is a simple one, but Apple has boosted the quality of the audio messages
you leave in Messages by adopting a different codec (Opus) at 24000 Hz instead
of the previous AMR Narrowband codec at 8000 Hz. Neat.

More specific screen "Downtime"
You can now customize which days and times you want to schedule "Downtime"
via iOS' Screen Time feature. As a reminder, if your phone is in "Downtime"
mode, you'll only be able to use certain apps (you choose) and your device's
Phone app. That's it. Sorry, Facebook.

Group Facetime is back!
Yes, that horrible Group Facetime bug that allowed others to eavesdrop on what
you were doing is gone, and the feature is back for all to use. Enjoy your
Brady Bunch-like conversations.

Promotions for subscription apps
Apple is now allowing app developers to offer promotional pricing for
subscriptions, so you'll want to be a bit more judicious about when you sign up
for that which you want to pay a recurring fee to access. As Apple's iOS
12.2 release notes describe:
"...apps with auto-renewable subscriptions can provide a discounted price for a
specific duration for existing and previously subscribed customers.
You can use subscription offers to help win back subscribers who have canceled
their subscriptions or promote an
