All, First, this is NOT a scam. Yesterday afternoon at around 2PM PDT Aira did make the announcement you saw.
Second, if you wish to cancel your plan, even the $29 intro plan, of course you can use the Aira for free 5-ninute service. Many calls actually are under five minutes which is why this new option was instituted. I would say, however, that most all of us do find times our needs go beyond five minutes. I would urge not canceling for those times.
