Since as others have confirmed, at least the first year is free, there is nothing to gift. Hello there, In what Richard has mentioned. All apps that is FREE. You can't gift but rather you can send them an email by the Share button. The WhatsApp has been FREE since July 16, 2013 of this year. Before this it used to be $0.99 to purchase. I believe at one point I heard that they were going to a monthly pay subscription toward the end of this year. However, I have not heard anything since that article back in the summer when they had announce this. Just to add to this, keep in mind you can only gift an app to somebody from the same country. I am in Canada and I can only gift apps to people who are also in Canada or at have their Apple ID registered as Canadian. If I tried to gift an app to somebody in the States or another country they would not receive it.
