It should be mentioned here that the latest version of the Apple keyboard now
has an on/off slider doing away with the annoying power push in button. I have
not used it but a colleague of mine got it and loves it. Again for those of you
who are looking for a keyboard that you will not travel with check out the
Macally keyboards. Best keyboard I have ever owned and connects to 6 devices
both Mac/PC/IOS/Android.

questions ...

Why do you recommend the 811 over the 810 when you're using with iOS?
You can obviously use the 811 with Windows, but can you use the 810 with
iOS?

Thanks for your thoughts, always welcomed!

The Logitech K810 has the Windows key layout with a Windows Start key, Alt and

keyboard for iOS as the model K811 and if you are buying it for use with iOS
devices I recommend it over the K810. I also have a K811 and it is a very nice
keyboard and while I haven't seen an Amazon Basics, I think they all are about
the same size whether it's Apple, Logitech or Amazon Basics. The Logitech feels
very solid and well-made just as most Logitech products do. The on/off switch
is a slider switch on the right side of the keyboard and there is no way it
would turn on automatically in a pack or bag as it is a pretty stiff switch.
The new Apple keyboard, by the way, also now has a switch and rechargeable
battery and no longer the button which can easily get pushed and 2 Double A
batteries.

The primary difference seems to be that the Alt and Windows key, which means
option key and command key in ios/MacOs; are opposite
way round. Windows layout in the bottom-left corner is ctrl/windows/alt,
ios/Mac layout is ctrl/option/command. So either would
work so long as you remember that the ctrl-option VO combination would have
the Windows key between them using the Win layout, or
the Windows key would be next to spacebar on the iOs/Mac layout.

That's the only bit I know, and didn't find any real issue.

I'd assume it's because the tactile feedback makes them more responsive.
With the tactile feedback you know exactly how much pressure to apply to
each key press.

The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems
because it
is squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is
worth it,
once I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like
the Apple keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I
learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or
not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech
something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been
able to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch
that
was tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first
generation I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it
would be there, I would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's
birthday, he
never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't
know
how but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for
several months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

The Logitech K380 sells for $30 on Amazon, and I love it. It does have
the command key between control and options, but I use the caps lock
key as the VO Modifier key anyway, so that's not an issue for me. The
k380 also connects to 3 devi ecs at the same time and I love the feel
of the keys. They are also very quiet, which is a nice thing.

Good luck,
Scott

I caught my Amazon Basics Bluetooth wireless keyboard on special for $19.99 and
free shipping. I bought a really nice cloth case for it for 20 bucks. The
outside is a soft can us and the inside is even softer material. The case has
room for a couple of triple (A) batteries which seem to last quite a long time.
The keyboard with its soft case fits nicely in a back pack for taking it with

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-03 Thread 'Ray T. Mahorney' via VIPhone
closing the loop on this, After looking at the specs for the other keyboards
mentioned and recommended in this thread I decided to stay with the amazon
basics Apparently the price for this keyboard is now 29.95 but I got it for
25.0 and thanks to the good folks at Amazon, it should be here Friday.

The keyboard with it's soft case fits nicely in a back pack for taking it with
you.

One thing to keep in mind is you could by something like 3 or 4 amazon
bt keyboards for what you would pay for one Logitech. I never used a
Logitech keyboard so can't speak to the quality, but I am very happy
with my amazon keyboard and at $25 or so the price was just right.

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Rose Combs
The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because it is
squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth it, once
I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like the Apple
keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch that was
tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first generation
I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it would be there, I
would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday, he
never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know how
but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for several
months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Rose Combs
My reason for buying the Amazon Basic keyboard is the fact that the on-off
switch turns off, the Apple I have one cannot tell if it is on or off and if
one needs to take with it could be on in a suitcase forever and one would not
know it.

The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because it
is squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth it,
once I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like
the Apple keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I
learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch that
was tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first
generation I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it
would be there, I would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday, he
never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know
how but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for
several months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

I really don't know how to describe how big it is to be perfectly honest. The
keys are pretty close to being as large as the computer keys, there are just
not as many of them. On the top left, there is the escape key, but then the
next three keys are devoted to a specific device that you pare with.

Hope this makes sense,

I'm very happy with my Microsoft Universal Mobile keyboard. It's about
the size and thickness of a thin paperback book. The cover is hard and
magnetic so you can detach it. When it's folded down to cover the
keyboard, you can be certain that the keyboard is off. Openning the
cover powers it on instantly. It works great with my iPHONE6 with no
lag at all. Currently, it's on Amazon for around $60 Canadian. It has
a rechargable battery which is said to be good for around 6 months of
normal use. It won't collapse and isn't a foldable keyboard. It's
around 85% the size of a full desktop keyboard. Very sturdy and
durable. Key travel is also reasonably good especially considering how
thin it is.

My wife Sara like her Keys To Go bluetooth keyboard. It's thinner and
lighter than mine. I haven't played with it so can't really give more
details. There's quite a nice range of choice out there. Best of luck
with whatever you choose.

Oh, I put batteries in and after trying to connect several times decided I had
put them in backwards, turned them and voila, it worked. I just sort of knew
that would happen! Seems like it happens a lot, I figure out the wrong way
first. My late husband used to laugh or get annoyed with me because I seemed
never to get it right the first time, unless I took them out first, if none
were there to begin with I did it wrong.

Re: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Brent Harding
I'm not sure why they're hitting the gamer community by storm now. Maybe
it's because they're more durable, and those guys don't want to keep buying
keyboards all the time as they wear out the keys their games use the most.

They felt more like the typewriters we all came from.

I wonder why people like the so called mechanical keyboards that are
expensive? I heard they are starting to become a thing with gamers. I
think

I'm too young to have remembered those.

The Basics has a touch almost like a toy, I tend to have problems because
it
is squishy but, the ability to tell if I actually turned it off is worth
it,

once I have used it a bit I am sure I will get used to it, I did not like
the Apple keyboard at first either, not enough travel, too flat but I
learned to use it.
It was nice enough but, the fact that I could not tell if it was on or not
drove me crazy and wasted a lot of battery life. Tom had Logitech
something
that I truly liked, more like a desktop keyboard but I have not been able
to
get it to connect to my 6 for some reason, it too had an on/off switch
that

was tactile, also could charge it off a USB works on the iPad mini first
generation I have. If I could have gotten it to connect to the phone it
would be there, I would not have bought the Basic.

I bought the keyboard in 2014, May 24th, two days before Tom's birthday,
he

never used it, passed on May 30, 2014. I brought it home and I don't know
how but I did connect it to the iPad. It works sometimes now but for
several months it was great, has a nice touch.

Anyway, I am okay with the Amazon for now.

I never have had an Amazon basics, but the keyboard I have is my favorite
one out of the 5 that I have. It definitely has a great feel to it.

RE: a more functional BT keyboard

2016-02-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Logitech K810 has the Windows key layout with a Windows Start key, Alt and
Control. You can use it with an iOS device, but Logitech does make the same
keyboard for iOS as the model K811 and if you are buying it for use with iOS
devices I recommend it over the K810.
The new Apple keyboard, by the way, also now has a switch and rechargeable
battery and no longer the button which can easily get pushed and 2 Double A
batteries.

I just looked at this keyboard. How big is it and how solid is the feel? Also
can you tell when it is on or off and can you easily tell which device it is
set to talk to?
