Hello, just playing around with the Google Assistant app, it looks like you can ask all of the same questions that you would ask a physical Google Home speaker such as the weather, or to set an alarm, or even to play music from Google play music if you are subscribed.
Having said that, you definitely need a Google account to make all of this work. Not difficult to set up, and of course it is free.
