Voice Dream Reader is working fine now.
Neither Winston nor I have any idea what happened when I updated to the
latest version.

I sent him my database and it worked fine on his device.
He sent it back with the other two files the app creates, I loaded them into
my app and it is working great.

My apologies for causing anyone to delay upgrading.
If anyone else runs into trouble after the upgrade, contact Winston and
follow his instructions.

Enjoy,

Richard

I was finally able to get an audio book into VDR. Here's what I did.

The book was in a zip file so I extracted it into my Dropbox folder. The
folder structure of the zip was maintained so I wound up with a folder
under my DB folder containing the mp3 files.

I then tapped on add from the VDR home screen and chose Dropbox from the
resulting dialog.

I was then presented with the contents of my DB folder so I flicked down
to the folder containing the mp3 files and opened it up.

The mp3 files were now showing so I simply double tapped on each file
which VDR happily downloaded.

The 2 files that comprised the audio book now show up on the home
screen. At this point, you can start playing the file via normal methods.

I decided to go a step further however, and put both of the mp3 files
into a play list. This is something you will have to play with and
figure out because I found it somewhat confusing but I finally did wind
up getting them into a playlist but at this time can't give a step by
step of exactly how, just know that its doable. I think the playlist
creation needs to be a bit more intuitive but maybe it's just me. I
would like to be able to rename the playlist and haven't yet discovered
how but it's probably there under the edit button.

I do agree it would be great if one could simply import the whole zip
file from DB and have VDR deal with it automatically, discarding any
files that sometimes are in these zips and creating a play list of the
mp3 files with a prompt to name the play list. That would be totally
awesome.

So far, VDR is keeping its place in the audio book perfectly. the swipe
up and down on the play button works great, and you can even change the
speed of the playback by swiping up and down while the voice settings is
focused. I don't usually speed up any spoken audio but in my short test,
it worked great with no degradation of audio at all. Pitch remained
constant and I heard no added artifacts in the audio.

What's New in Version 2.9.0
Posted Oct 23, 2013
This major release significantly improves usability for VoiceOver users:
- Incredibly easy-to-use text selection mechanism. Copy to clipboard,
lookup words
in the dictionary, highlight, and add your own notes.
- Extensive use of new and innovative swipe-enabled buttons for
VoiceOver users.
Swipe the Voice Settings button to change the speed rate. Rewind and
Fast Forward
are built into the Play-Pause button as up and down swipes.
- The text slider that moves the speech cursor by 5% has been
modified so that swiping
up moves toward the beginning of the text. The directions have been
reversed from
previous releases so that it now behaves the same way as the other
swipe-enabled
controls. For iOS 7, you can double tap the slider to enter a percent
value.
Plus delicious goodies for everyone:
- Experimental support for MP3 audio books. Yes, it remembers where
you leave off
just like text. And you make add bookmarks.
- Pronunciation dictionary import and export. View the entire
pronunciation dictionary
in an editable text window, allowing editing, copying, and pasting,
plus exporting
to another app like Dropbox and share it with others via email.
- Launching Voice Dream Reader from Mobile Safari. Create a bookmark
with the following
URL. Next time you select this bookmark, it'll open the current web
page in Voice
Dream Reader:
javascript:window.location=com.voicedream.reader://open?url=+window.location

- Change speech rate on the fly with two-finger up or down swipes.
(Not for VoiceOver
users).
- Fixed several problems with using iOS 7 built-in voices.
- A lot of the minor improvements and bug fixes.

Swipe the Voice Settings button to change the speed rate. Rewind and
Fast Forward
are built into the Play-Pause button as up and down swipes.
- The text slider that moves the speech cursor by 5% has been
modified so that swiping
up moves toward the beginning of the text. The directions have been
reversed from
previous releases so that it now behaves the same way as the other
swipe-enabled
controls. For iOS 7, you can double tap the slider to enter a percent
value.
Plus delicious goodies for everyone:
- Experimental support for MP3 audio books. Yes, it remembers where
you leave off
just like text. And you make add bookmarks.
- Pronunciation dictionary import and export. View the entire
pronunciation dictionary
in an editable text window, allowing editing, copying, and pasting,
plus exporting
to another app like Dropbox and share it with others via email.
- Launching Voice Dream Reader from Mobile Safari. Create a bookmark
with the following
URL. Next time you select this bookmark, it'll open the current web
page in Voice
Dream Reader:
javascript:window.location=com.voicedream.reader://open?url=+window.location

- Change speech rate on the fly with two-finger up or down swipes.
(Not for VoiceOver
users).
- Fixed several problems with using iOS 7 built-in voices.
- A lot of the minor improvements and bug fixes.

Re: new update to Voice Dream Reader 2.9.0

2013-10-25 Thread Rick Alfaro

Copy to clipboard, lookup
 words
in the dictionary, highlight, and add your own notes.
 - Extensive use of new and innovative swipe-enabled buttons for VoiceOver
 users.
Swipe the Voice Settings button to change the speed rate. Rewind and Fast
 Forward
are built into the Play-Pause button as up and down swipes.
 - The text slider that moves the speech cursor by 5% has been modified so
 that swiping
up moves toward the beginning of the text. The directions have been reversed
 from
previous releases so that it now behaves the same way as the other
 swipe-enabled
controls. For iOS 7, you can double tap the slider to enter a percent value.
 Plus delicious goodies for everyone:
 - Experimental support for MP3 audio books. Yes, it remembers where you leave
 off
just like text. And you make add bookmarks.
 - Pronunciation dictionary import and export. View the entire pronunciation
 dictionary
in an editable text window, allowing editing, copying, and pasting, plus
 exporting
to another app like Dropbox and share it with others via email.
 - Launching Voice Dream Reader from Mobile Safari. Create a bookmark with the
 following
URL. Next time you select this bookmark, it'll open the current web page in
 Voice
 Dream Reader:
 javascript:window.location=com.voicedream.reader://open?url=+window.location
 - Change speech rate on the fly with two-finger up or down swipes. (Not for
 VoiceOver
 users).
 - Fixed several problems with using iOS 7 built-in voices.
 - A lot of the minor improvements and bug fixes.

It is a disaster for me.
As I tried to state in a previous note this morning.
After using the highlight feature, it gets stuck in various screens like
voice settings, bookmarks, and now I can't open it after following Winston's
advice to delete the app, install it again and restore my backed up database

I'm now trying to get my previous version installed from my backed up mobile

What's New in Version 2.9.0
Posted Oct 23, 2013
This major release significantly improves usability for VoiceOver users:
- Incredibly easy-to-use text selection mechanism. Copy to clipboard,
lookup words
in the dictionary, highlight, and add your own notes.
- Extensive use of new and innovative swipe-enabled buttons for
VoiceOver users.
Swipe the Voice Settings button to change the speed rate. Rewind and
Fast Forward
are built into the Play-Pause button as up and down swipes.
- The text slider that moves the speech cursor by 5% has been modified
so that swiping
up moves toward the beginning of the text. The directions have been
reversed from
previous releases so that it now behaves the same way as the other
swipe-enabled
controls. For iOS 7, you can double tap the slider to enter a percent value.
Plus delicious goodies for everyone:
- Experimental support for MP3 audio books. Yes, it remembers where you
leave off
just like text. And you make add bookmarks.
- Pronunciation dictionary import and export. View the entire
pronunciation dictionary
in an editable text window, allowing editing, copying, and pasting, plus
exporting
to another app like Dropbox and share it with others via email.
- Launching Voice Dream Reader from Mobile Safari. Create a bookmark
with the following
URL. Next time you select this bookmark, it'll open the current web page
in Voice
Dream Reader:
javascript:window.location=com.voicedream.reader://open?url=+window.locati
