DFU stands for device firmware update. When in DFu mode, your phone will work with iTunes, so you can load new firmware, but IOS is not running on the phone. It’s a mode on your phone that allows it to have iOS installed over the computer. I think it stands for disfunctional unit, but don’t quote me on that. LOL.
