follow-up to my pre-ordering from the Apple Store app question of last week

2015-09-20 Thread Vicky Collins
You might recall that I mentioned pre-ordering the 64GB AT
iPhone 6S plus, but then canceled the order when I looked
further at the contract free option. I still haven't ordered
anything; but, as often is the case, grin, I'm thinking I'll go
back and get the AT model after all. Although, of course, I
won't have it on the 25th.

I did call Apple to ask the differences in the various phones;
and, while the person was quite willing to help and stay on the
line as long as necessary, I kind of felt I was directing her to
look and find each specification for which I had a question. She
did let me know, as I had forgotten that detail, about AT not
unlocking a phone till someone has been with them for 60 days.
But, whether that means 60 days as a brand new customer, or 60
days after an upgrade, I didn't choose to pursue seeing as I plan
to stay with AT and just like the idea of having complete
control over my phones.

Here are links to three different articles which lean me towards
getting the AT phone, and then getting it unlocked at some
future date. Oh, before I give those links, I just checked the
Apple Store app again; and, believe it or not, the 6S 64GB in
Space Gray is still showing delivers on the 25th as of ten till
four EDT this Sunday afternoon in the United States, while the
similar model in the 6S plus is showing available to ship in 3 to
4 weeks. Even though I tend to prefer the smaller models, I
decided to again try the larger phone.

The first link here is to the Apple specifications for the new
iPhones, the second link deals with the extra band 30 on the AT
model and the last link deals more with an international flavor
of discussing the different phone models:

pre-ordering with the Apple Store app

2015-09-13 Thread Vicky Collins
I first have a question, then I'll talk about my experience using
the Apple Store app to pre-order an iPhone here in the United
States. Is it possible to pre-order an unlocked iPhone 6S or 6S
Plus using the Apple Store app? When using the app, I see the
option to order a contract free iPhone; then, when I select this
option, the app shows step1 us prodselect tmobilelo. And, I'm
not quite sure what this means, not sure if this is different
from a factory unlocked phone normally available from Apple a few
months after the new iPhones go on sale. Although, it kind of
looks like some sort of T-Mobile model phone.

As for the rest of my experience with the Apple Store app and
pre-ordering, I opted to sleep in and try to see what I could do
around eight o'clock yesterday morning. And, I was able to go in
and pre-order the Space Gray iPhone 6S Plus 64GB to be delivered
September 25th. I had looked at the contract free choice, but
didn't at that time realize I had to double tap on that step1
message stated above to get it to work, so thought it was only an
in store option. Thus, I pre-ordered the AT model, thankfully
being able to choose to pay full purchase price this time, as you
might recall it took me forever to get that Next plan paid off
when I purchased the 6 Plus last year.

When I was purchasing that said carrier model, I was made aware
of a $15 upgrade fee, even though I had paid off my Next plan
contract several months ago. Of course I had to research that
fee further, and found that AT had indeed changed their upgrade
fees as indicated from:

www.att.com/shop/wireless/upgrade-advantage.html

Then, I checked further and saw this iPhone 6S and 6S Plus buying
guide indicating that one could get an unlocked phone from Apple
right away:

m.imore.com/how-buy-iphone-6s-and-iphone-6s-plus-united-states

When I read that article, I went back to the Apple Store app and
looked again, and that is when I paid more attention and saw how
to make the contract free option show up such that I could pay
outright for that selection. I then canceled my AT order,
something that was quite easily done on the Apple web site with
just a few keystrokes, but haven't yet submitted another order.
By the way, the AT and contract free Space Gray iPhone 6S 64GB
were still showing a September 25th delivery date as of an hour
ago, meaning around 11:30 AM EDT on Sunday morning, while both
the contract free and AT models for the Space Gray 64GB 6S Plus
were showing a 3 to 4 week delivery time.
