Dear Vistrails users, Today we have done some further experiments with this. As we found out, it is indeed possible to start Vistrails manually (with GUI) and then have batch commands use that instance of Vistrails.
However, we ran into two limitations in doing this: - Parameters (aliases) are not supported and cause the following error: 2016-10-17 18:45:27,076 CRITICAL: C:\Anaconda2\lib\site-packages\vistrails-2.2.3-py2.7.egg\vistrails\gui\application.py, line 750 Command Failed Other instance processed input (Command Failed) - This requires a GUI to remain open while a batch process is being executed If there is any way to circumvent these limitations, we would be very glad to know as it would open up a lot of added flexibility. Thanks in advance. This requires many different VT’s to be called from the command line, each with several different input parameters. The processes themselves are relatively short (a few seconds), but starting Vistrails takes substantially longer (approximately 30 seconds) At the moment I can successfully do this in sequence; however, that does give a lot of overhead because the startup process is repeated for every batch call. Is it possible to first give one command to start Vistrails and have subsequent batch commands make use of the previously started instance of Vistrails? As a second question, is it possible to trace, for example in the Provenance, the values of the input parameters that Vistrails was called with? Thanks in advance. Best regards, Pieter Boelen
