Double Buffering or sync to vblank

Hi, we are using RealVNC on a slow embedded PC. Unfortunately screen updates are sometimes so slow that tearing is very visible. Has anybody implemented double buffering or maybe wait for vblank before screen updates? The latter one seems easy enough to try, but I have no idea how to wait for
