Barbara,
"Connection timed out" is often caused by firewall misconfiguration. If the
firewall isn't allowing connections to the specified port, it will often
simply drop the network packets, causing the viewer to receive no response
and to eventually timeout.

Do you happen to have any type of firewalls running? Also, what operating
systems are you currently utilizing? If it is windows xp make sure that its
own internal firewall is turned off.
