RealVNC Opens then Closes straight away

2006-11-06 Thread Sean Lewis
Hi I am trying to use RealVNC Viewer on my machine but for some weird unknown reason whenever I open the app it closes a few seconds afterwards. It does this silently with nothing written to event logs on the system. Anybody experienced this before? Cheers Sean Visit our web site:

2006-11-06 Thread James Weatherall
Hi Calvin, I have an old Sparc II machine running Aurora Sparc Linux 1.0 (RHL 7.3 equivalent). It comes with VNC 3.3.3. Older compiler and libraries prevent building a VNC v4 variant. VNC 4.x builds cleanly on RHL 7.3, so if ASL 1.0 is equivalent, you shouldn't have problems building it.

I tried building from a vnc-4.1.2-5.fc6.src.rpm that I found on rpmfind.net, but there were too many dependencies. I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get them all. I then tried an earlier 4.x vnc-4.0-5.src.rpm. All went well until nearing the end of rpmbuild when an unspecified dependency

Hi Calvin, You can download the standard source-code for VNC Free Edition 4.1.2 from http://www.realvnc.com/download.html The standard source code is a tarball, not a source RPM, though. Cheers, Wez @ RealVNC Ltd. -Original Message- From: Calvin Webster [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Craig, I would *strongly* advise you to find out what's currently using port 5900 on that server, using the netstat -ab command as I previously suggested, to make sure it's not something malicious. What does VNC Viewer report if you actually try connecting to port 5900? Regards, Wez @ RealVNC

Craig, The fact that attempting to connect gives the message not an RFB server in spite of there being nothing using port 5900 according to netstat strongly suggests that the system has been compromised. Your best bet is to take the system off the network to run a full virus/malware scan on it.

Running netstat -ab does not yield the answers we want.. This is a windows 2000 pro system and the netstat options are different than on a windows xp box. However, netstat does not show 5900 in use at all. I have closed the 5900 port on the router and opened 5901. If I try to connect internally to
