I think you both are right.
This is not a new idea the examples are easy to find. Unfortunately it is a
self propelling disease, once a group has accepted one stupid rule than it
is easy to create other rules that alter the first mistake with a larger
mistake..
I am of the opinion it is a lack of leadership that creates the
opportunity. A leadership that does not support renewal of all internal
rules and policies will ultimately drive people to take decisions based on
reasons, which are totally free from the basic idea. Large organizations
are a very fertile base for the development of this disease.
I personally think we should concentrate on keeping organizations small.
The simple reason is that it is hard for a leader to lead more than 10
people. Yes, I agree there is ways with "repeaters" lower in the hierarchy.
However, at some point the limit will be reached and the message will not
come trough. The usual way of solving the problem is to increase the number
of people involved with the faulty process. Thus increasing the problem and
then it is like making snowballs.
There is a children's play when you have a number of people whispering a
sentence to another who then whisper to another etc until everybody got the
sentence. Usually the result is very funny and not much alike the first
whisper. The larger the group the worse the outcome.Once you have passed
ten people it is usually totally free from the origin.
We are still building larger and larger organizations and then we complain
that those organizations becomes stagnant.

I do not think Vortex suffer from this syndrome. There are too many brave
people who wants to speak their mind. Technology wise I think the debate is
sound. However, we often take in people and criticize them and their theory
with very little evidence except for previous rumors.
