Re: [vox-tech] Windows Browser Recommendation

2009-09-17 Thread Steve Weiss
I run Firefox 3.5.2 on my WinXP system and disable Norton 360's add-ons
(it has 2) to Firefox. This gives a BIG improvement in both startup time
and browsing performance. (I've otherwise been happy with 360, unlike
some past incarnations of Norton.) The add-ons are unnecessary as far as
I'm concerned. Without them Firefox starts in just a few seconds.

I'll give it a try. (There's people on the web complaining about it too.)
I'll download it tomorrow.

Thaks again.

Did you try upgrading to 3.5? I hear it's faster and fewer memory leaks
as is par with most new releases they do.

As far as I can tell, MS-Windows is within the declared charter of
this mailing list. http://lists.lugod.org/mailman/listinfo/vox-tech
says:

This is lugod's technical discussion forum. All Linux and computer
related technical questions and discussions go here.
Everything else goes to our other mailing list, vox.

The corresponding page for vox says:

Vox is for non-technical discussion about computers, LUGOD and Linux.
Technical questions and discussions should be directed to our other
   mailing list, vox-tech.

You're forgiven, and you have my sympathy.

I mostly use Firefox for a number of reasons, but still use Opera at
times. It is fast, it works very well, and if it had a larger
organization behind it, would probably have a lot more market share.

That would be my choice, though I have no recent experience with Safari.

Yes Opera is still fast, and last time I checked a little more compliant
with web standards than Safari.

What version of Windows/Firefox is giving you trouble?
