[Vserver] bug 2.6.20.2 ??

Hello all,

Today big problem with linux-2.6.20.2 (from kernel.org) and
patch-2.6.20.2-vs2.2.0-rc16.diff. (debian-sarge, Pentium4D, 2Go ram)
I use vserver since two years, so i don't think it's a compil error.

It runs fine two hours then hangs with this message in syslog :

how do you get to such a conclusion?

I think its been broken for a while and removed completely

while it will be removed for 2.3.x, and is already
removed to some extend for 2.2.x, it is still
part of 2.1.x and it compiles and works perfectly

you'll get the same warnings on mainline

I think the device mapping patches were included a bit prematurely (I
don't think they're supposed to be there), but to get rid of the errors
you could enable CONFIG_VSERVER_DEVICE (though I had problems booting
 without some further fixes,
 http://people.linux-vserver.org/~dhozac/p/k/delta-dmap-feat04.4.diff).

Re: [Vserver] Vserver doesn't start automatically

Hello,

When i type : apt-file search popd i got this answer :

..
ksh: usr/share/ksh/functions/popd

zsh: usr/share/zsh/help/popd
.

Perhaps it expects a zsh/ksh shell ?

I got this error last week, and i just launch vserver from /usr/local/sbin
as you did and it works too...

Subject: [Vserver] Vserver doesn't start automatically

Dear all, I have a vserver on a Debian Etch box with the corresponding
packages versions to this distribution, which has the
/etc/vservers/virtual1/apps/init/mark file with the 'default' value in
order to start automatically on booting. In the past it starts
automatically OK, but today it doesn't (yesterday there was a power
shutdown and the Debian box was down).

I get this messages on the boot process:

 starting vservers of type
 'default'/usr/lib/util-vserver/vserver.functions: line 696: popd:
/tmp/vserver-init.us3839: no such file or directory

 Failed to start vserver 'virtual1'
 make ** [.proxy.stamp] Error 1
make target 'all' not remake because of errors
 ERROR

Can you help me to correct this problem ???

While I wait for a response, I start automatically my vserver from the
 /etc/rc.local script from Debian, when I put '/usr/sbin/vserver virtual1
 start'...but I don't want this solution.

 Thanks a lot,

 Alejandro

Re: [Vserver] Bug again on 2.6.19

2006-12-09 Thread vserver
Hello dan

By loosing context i want to say :

when it's ok :
srvweb:/var/log# vserver-stat
CTX PROCVSZRSS userTIME sysTIMEUPTIME NAME
0 82 986.7M 220.4M 4m15s84 1m41s00 2h49m11 root server
20 18 424.1M 117.1M 0m10s24 0m01s12 2h48m00 vweb1
21 15 729.1M 107M 0m02s70 0m01s10 2h05m32 vweb2
22 10 63.6M 22.4M 0m00s50 0m00s50 2h05m14 vweb3

when it loose context :
srvweb:/var/log# vserver-stat
CTX PROCVSZRSS userTIME sysTIMEUPTIME NAME
0 82 986.7M 220.4M 4m15s84 1m41s00 2h49m11 root server
20 18 424.1M 117.1M 0m10s24 0m01s12 2h48m00
21 15 729.1M 107M 0m02s70 0m01s10 2h05m32
22 10 63.6M 22.4M 0m00s50 0m00s50 2h05m14

And of course(?) i can't enter anymore in the vserver when it doesn't appear
in vserver-stat. But the processes attached to this vserver continue to run.

This morning Bertl told me to launch testme.sh : the result is ok.

This is probably a race in the proc-code that we haven't been able to
track down yet, but if you have a sure-fire way to reproduce it, that
 would help a lot.

put localhost 127.0.0.1 (or better: your guest main
IP) into the
file /etc/hosts in your guest - this should solve your
problem.

I have adeded localhost pup.ip.x.x to /etc/host. it now
resolves localhost but autovacuum still does not start. I
have multiple vserver guest, I have all traffic that is
not explicitedly allowed blocked on the loopback
interface. I am using fwbuilder to manage the firewall. I
am not sure which ports to allow for udp socket for stat
collector.

Subject: [Vserver] util-vserver 0.30.211 released

 Hello everyone!

This new release comes with a few new features, a lot of fixes, and a
 new (co-)maintainer.
 Among the new features are:
 - the build method template, which builds guests from tarball(s),
 cpio(s) and/or dump(s).
 - the build method fai, which builds guests using Debian's Fully
Automatic Installation[1], original patch and testing by Sam Vilain.
 - support for CPUSETs in the configuration, to limit guests to certain
 CPUs, patch by Jan Rekorajski.
 - a namespace cleanup in userspace implementation, by Bastian Blank.
 - a delete method to remove guests, patch by Thomas Champagne.
 - vlogin, a terminal proxy which creates a psuedo-tty on the inside of
the guest when you use vserver guest enter, patch by Benedikt Böhm.
 - support for an initialize script, to (for instance) create device
nodes required for the guest's root mount, patch by Herbert Pötzl.
 - FC5 and FC6 (in theory) support.

Among the fixes, we find things like:
 - vattribute doesn't reset all bcaps when setting ccaps/one bcap.
 - chcontext lets you grant more caps than --secure allows.
 - start-vservers --all actually means all guests, not just the unmarked
 ones.
 - make namespaces work on s390/sparc.
 - an update to Herbert's shiny10 alternative syscall implementation.
 - make vrpm/vapt-get/vyum run inside the network context.
 - vserver guest suexec lets you specify usernames on 2.6 kernels.
 - RPM-based builds on CentOS/RHEL 4.4 should work.
 - centos42 was changed to centos4, which should point at the latest 4.x
 release at all times.
 - vshelper works correctly with legacy support turned off in the kernel.
 - Gentoo is now as supported as any other distribution.
 - having the guest's / mount in the fstab file should work again
 (previously stop/enter would fail).
 - the save_ctxinfo: execv(): No such file or directory on RH-based
 systems should be resolved.

To see the complete list of changes, see the ChangeLog inside the tarball.

Get it while it's hot, in either a gzip- or bzip2-compressed tarball,
 from http://ftp.linux-vserver.org/pub/utils/util-vserver/, which is the
new official location. I have signed the tarballs, so if you're
verifying them you'll have to import my key (available from pgp.mit.edu).

2006-09-15 Thread vserver
Hello all

I'm new member on this mailing-list but i use linux-vserver since 2 years.

I've a problem today with kernel-2.6.17.13
patch-2.6.17.13-vs2.1.1-rc34.diff but I am not sure that is in connection
with the patch :

My config :
- debian-3.1 stable + sources backports.
- preceding core : linux-2.6.17.11 patch-2.6.17.11-vs2.1.1-rc29.diff : works
fine with 3 virtual servers.
- hardware : Pentium 805D - 2Go DDRII - MotherBoard : MSI 945P Neo2
- util-vserver-0.30.210
- Compilation without problem BUT just before i can login these messages
appears and are repeated :

[Vserver] Guest IP address is not accessible from outside

2005-11-12 Thread vserver
Hello.

When I try to connect to guest virtual machine IP address from
outside, connection goes to host machine, and I cannot connect to
guest at all. Details are attached below.

I installed linux-vserver over CentOS 4 x86_64 according strictly
to instructions here:

http://linux-vserver.org/CentOS_HowTo

I used the following create command:

# vserver hosting build -m yum --hostname hosting --interface
hosting=eth0:213.248.62.106/24 --initstyle sysv --context 500 --force -- -d
centos4

So, guest OS (hosting) has assigned IP 213.248.62.106
Host machine (delta) has IP address 213.248.62.107 on eth0.

Something goes wrong with networking.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 00]# vserver hosting start
Starting system logger:[ OK ]
Starting kernel logger:[ OK ]

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 00]# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:75:13:D2
  inet addr:213.248.62.107 Bcast:213.248.62.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
  inet6 addr: fe80::230:48ff:fe75:13d2/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:322664 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:2134 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:20858801 (19.8 MiB) TX bytes:233103 (227.6 KiB)
  Base address:0x3000 Memory:dd30-dd32

eth0:host Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:75:13:D2
  inet addr:213.248.62.106 Bcast:213.248.62.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  Base address:0x3000 Memory:dd30-dd32

You see, 213.248.62.106 was added as alias to eth0. Maybe it is
OK, let's go forward:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] 00]# vserver hosting enter

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:75:13:D2
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:323267 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:2175 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:20898570 (19.9 MiB) TX bytes:238393 (232.8 KiB)
  Base address:0x3000 Memory:dd30-dd32

eth0:host Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:48:75:13:D2
  inet addr:213.248.62.106 Bcast:213.248.62.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  Base address:0x3000 Memory:dd30-dd32

You see, IP address in guest OS is OK - 213.248.62.106. And -
Internet from virtual machine is fully accessible, I can use yum,
for example.

But, when I try to connect to guest IP (213.248.62.106) from
outside (from other machines in Internet), I really connect to
HOST machine, NOT to virtual! It is very, very strange!

Moreover,

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /]# telnet 127.0.0.1 22
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to 127.0.0.1.
Escape character is '^]'.
SSH-1.99-OpenSSH_3.9p1

You see, I connected from virtual machine to 127.0.0.1, SSH port,
and answer was - OK. So, I connected to HOST machine AGAIN,
because virtual machine does not have SSH server at all.
127.0.0.1 in GUEST OS connects us to HOST machine? Strange, very
strange!

What do I do incorrectly?

P.S.

I also tried to remove /etc/vservers/hosting/interfaces/00/name
(it contains hosting, guest name). After that there is NO alias
213.248.62.106 in host machine ifconfig, but - also there is NO
ifconfig output in GUEST OS. I tried

service network start

in GUEST machine, creating
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file before, but -
when I run service network start in guest, I have error message
about already used interface 213.248.62.106.

At last, I tried to remove /etc/vservers/hosting/interfaces/00/
totally and operate /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
in guest only, but - it does not work too (service network
start finished OK, but following ifconfig shows nothing).

Please tell how to configure networking in linux-vserver, to be
able to connect to virtual machine from outside.

[Vserver] Problem running 2.4.23-vs1.22 - 2.4.24-vs1.22 - 2.4.24-vs1.23

2004-01-12 Thread VServer
Hello again:

This email is in reference to a problem I reported back in December 18, 2003.
Well, due to shortage of time as my real job kept me very busy, I never got
an opportunity to try vs1.21 on my kernel 2.4.23 as suggested by Herbert.

Just yesterday I decided to upgrade my kernel to 2.4.24 which I patched with
vs1.22 in hopes of making it work, but it didn't. Now that I'm running
2.4.24-vs1.22, I'm still having the same problem I was experiencing back in
December:

Here is the output of lsof -i (grep sendmail) where both the HOST and CLIENT
should show the same output.

- CLIENT ---
sendmail 3240 root4u IPv4 58614 TCP christngraphics.com:10025

The new question is, how do I back out the vs1.22 patch in order to try
vs1.21?

Thanks in advance,
RV

I recently found the vserver project and quickly

This was the logical solution since there are too

sounds great!

 I have been running linux-vserver version 2.4.23-vs1.20
on a athlon 1.2 MHz with 1.5 GB Ram with Slackware 9.1
 as the OS.

hmm, don't know about slackware, but the rest
sounds good to me ...

I configured 3 vserver guests (2 running Slackware Live
and 1 running Sentry Linux) to handle email for 3 domains.

Sendmail and the virus/spam scanning system have been
 running beautifully on this setup.

okay, so it works with vs1.20 ...

I attempted to run 2.4.23-vs1.22 as soon as it came out
but after the reboot, sendmail started to error out on me.

I wrote a rc.vservers script that executes on boot to bring
 up the vserver clients.

there is a runlevel script included in the userspace
tools (/etc/init.d/vservers) this might be working
for you too ...

Once Sendmail starts up on the clients, I get the following
 error repeated every five minutes:

 Dec 17 21:41:40 salvation sm-mta[1867]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root):
opendaemonsocket: daemon MTA-RX: cannot bind: Address already in use
Dec 17 21:41:40 salvation sm-mta[1867]: daemon MTA-RX: problem creating SMTP

okay, looks like the 'address/port' (whatever it might be)
is already used by some other task ...

I would ask you to try vs1.21, and see if this works for
you, and to locate the address/port the daemon tries to
bind to ...

maybe you could provide the following on a web site:

 * output of lsof -i
 * your vserver configurations
 * your host service configuration

TIA,
Herbert

 I hope somebody can help,
 Ronald Vazquez

2.4.24-vs1.22, I'm still having the same problem I was experiencing back in
December:

daemon MTA-RX: cannot bind: Address already in use

Here is the output of lsof -i (grep sendmail) where both the HOST and CLIENT
should show the same output.

- HOST ---
sendmail 3165 root4u IPv4 56533 TCP *:25 (LISTEN)
sendmail 3165 root5u IPv4 56534 TCP *:587 (LISTEN)
sendmail 3167 root4u IPv4 56531 TCP localhost:10025 (LISTEN)

- CLIENT ---
sendmail 3240 root4u IPv4 58614 TCP christngraphics.com:10025
(LISTEN)

The new question is, how do I back out the vs1.22 patch in order to try
vs1.21?

Thanks in advance,
RV

 Hello list:

What a great project this is. Hats off guys.
I recently found the vserver project and quickly
decided to setup my box to take some abuse...
This was the logical solution since there are too
many computers in this room already.

sounds great!

 Dec 17 21:41:40 salvation sm-mta[1867]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root):
opendaemonsocket: daemon MTA-RX: cannot bind: Address already in use
Dec 17 21:41:40 salvation sm-mta[1867]: daemon MTA-RX: problem creating SMTP
 socket

okay, looks like the 'address/port' (whatever it might be)
is already used by some other task ...

I would ask you to try vs1.21, and see if this works for
you, and to locate the address/port the daemon tries to
bind to ...

maybe you could provide the following on a web site:

 * output of lsof -i
 * your vserver configurations
 * your host service configuration

TIA,
Herbert

Thank you Herbert for the reply. I will try 1.21 soon and let you know the
outcome.
