house. it all works fine and i can see any of others' libraries IN FULL. which
was fine to begin with but i wanted to regulate who could see what on other

My G5 1.8SP 10.5.8 is showing signs of malaise. Specifically hanging
on starting applications, requiring a force quit and try again and
inordinately long time for copying in the Finder Often will halt and
sit for half a minute or so then carry on. I have done all the

G'day all WAMUGGERS.
All set for another year? Have you set up your iCal to tell when all the
monthly meetings are? I have and it tells me that the first WAMUG monthly
meeting is next Tuesday, 1st February 2011.
We'll start, as usual, with the question and answer session and then we'll have

Hi Severin,
Until Ronni chimes in with a, no doubt, more germane response, I just wanted to
say that on two occasions in past when I was completely baffled, the problem
turned out the be the hard-disc controller. These were not Apple computers so
the problem could be a lot more rare on Apple
Yes, something like that may be the problem, cherish the thought!

Hi Severin,
Could be one of many things causing slow downs freezes. Might be a case of
eliminating a few to see what is happening.
A couple of things you could check:
1.Have you booted into another Administrator's Account to see if you experience

I think I'll look in to the Telstra WiFi option.. not too worried about a
larger outlay upfront if it saves over the year (the main reason I moved from
pre paid mobile was that the service provider started expiring credits faster
than I could ever posibly use them so wouldn't be
Since you have plenty of space you could try temporarily making a partition on
your HD and doing a fresh install on it. It might seem like a pain but it'd be
a good way to determine whether the problem is software or hardware related.
If you do decide to go down this path then try to only
Hi Mark,
If you don't need NextG and have good 3G coverage, Vodafone have
similar prepaid options. $49 gets you a modem with 3GB over 30 days or
$79 for 6GB over 94 days. They have a recharge option for 365 days and
you get 12GB for $150. They also have a WiFi Dock for $59 so you can
My thanks to Ronni and Peter and others for suggestions. I have
zapped the PRAM, something I always forget, and will erase the unused
disk space when there are a couple of hours free, which is how long
Disk Utility says it will take.
Maybe, with these measures, it will just go away!

Last year I put up a site for a friend (http://www.cryingbabies.com.au/) which
included a hit counter, but after making some, what I thought were minor,
changes the hit counter stopped counting and neither FireFox or Explorer
display the welcome page properly--the

Thanks Warren,
I did that and the counter appeared to be working but the same problem with
FireFox occurred just a white borderless sheet with the counter, graphics and
text and no header links to the other pages.
