Hi John,
I’ve changed the subject to Transfer/Migrate OS 9.2.2 PowerBook ‘Pismo’ G3 to
OS X 10.6.7 Intel iMac.
More questions need answering please:
How much RAM does the PowerBook have installed … 1GB?
How large is the HD … 20GB?
How much ‘Free’ space left on the HD?
The PowerBook can read a

Hi Tim,
If you are prepared to go down to the Terminal level, HFS already has the
facility to store what is called metadata with any file. This does not change
the file and it is associated with the file at the filesystem level. Note this
only works on HFS and HFS+ filesystems, not Windows
Thanks Carlo,
That's really helpful. When I get some play time, I'll see how I go with it
Using Terminal is always a bit scary, but I'm happy to follow instructions!

Had a thought about this today too.
Wouldn't another way to do it perhaps be by using Get Info and Spotlight
Comments.
If you Get Info (from the file menu or Right Click/Control Click) on an
Application then where it says Spotlight Comments you wrote something in
there. Eg Firefox, Google

Weighing in late on this,...
But my preference would just be to put the Pismo into Firewire Target Mode
(Start the laptop up with the T key held down). It then turns into one big
Hard Drive. Plug this into the new machine and then transfer across your
data.
I wouldn't even look at moving
I cannot search some names in Mail 2.1.3 - they just come up with
nothing, used to work perfectly.
I have done the rebuild and synchronize mailbox to no success. I keep
all the emails at at times just need to see all emails with one name
or address.
My same mailbox on another Mac works

Yes, the removal of the info would be one downside. (sorry, forgot to mention
that). The other downside I noticed (for my machine anyway) was that some
programs (eg Safari) wouldn't let me add Spotlught comments. Maybe I didn't try
hard enough lol.
But was curious, would the Terminal command
Thanks Daniel and Ronni,
Your solution fits how I wanted to act it. Just need the method for transfering
the mail info.
As for apps will leave them on the prismo and maybe one day get the prismo to
work properly

I had to check to see if I was wearing “Daniel Kerr’s” Name Badge! ;-)

Well I've just seen the announcement that Pages, Numbers and Keynote have been
released as iPhone apps - perhaps that's been taking priority over updating the
'parents' …
(there is mention of a free update for existing iPad customers using iWork so
changes have been made there apparently)
Hi Peter,
Yes I am enjoying access to some important Numbers spreadsheets on my iPhone
for the first time. The upgrade to the iPad version of iWork is just to make
them Universal Apps — which is to say apps that contain within their bundle
both an iPad and an iPhone version.
Cheers,
Carlo
Hi Daniel,
The Spotlight method looks like a good find. I am coding furiously right now so
I will let you know if the xattr metadata survives an application update later
this evening.

Carlo
