Just as an experiment I changed my Desktop Downloads to:
View As List and'Arrange By’ None.
This then allows clicking on the date column to change ascending/descending etc.

Free version is generally fine.
Pretty easy to set up once installed, just create an account
With the MacBook you will be able to use video Skype. If your iPad is the 1st
generation you can only make Skype voice calls because of the lack of a camera.
Both are free calls, of course.
