Hi Bill,
Yes, I agree this has become too complex for you.
You have third-party software installed on your system that is conflicting with
Mavericks. You might find you need to go back and start again with a Clean
Install of Mavericks. If you need a Mac Consultant for assistance, I recommend

I got my last lot of RAM from Daniel. His price was very competitive and I

Thanks for the response Ronni.
I did try the saving/exporting in all the various ways you outlined but without
success. Your second email suggestion, to remove /Library/Internet

Hi Severin,
I agree with Barry to contact Daniel for his advice cost.
Officially your model iMac supports Max 16GB of Memory... However,
third-parties have discovered that it actually will support 32GB of memory
using four 8Gb modules.
But, Daniel is the person to contact and he will

Is there a way to determine if a HD uses USB2.0 or USB3.0 ?

Yes, third party will take it to 32GB no problems at all. Just depends on
pricing sometimes.
Replied to Severin off list to his email he sent me :)

Hi Stephen
Sometimes (not always) you can tell by the cable itself.
If you look at the USB connector that goes into the computer itself, (the
Rectangular end), generally USB3 has a blue connector on it and USB2/1 has a
white end.
The other one to confirm is if you go to Apple menu - About this

Hi Pad,
Have you tried a reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ?
Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds
(ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't
lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
I just tried the USB cable from the iPhone4, and now the iPad is charging while
plugged into the computer. If I remember correctly, this will do the job even
though it is a smaller cable. How important is it to have the correct connector?
Cheers,
Pat

Hi Pat,
Best to charge your iPad connected to Power with the Power Adapter, not on your
computer's USB port.
iPad is designed to charge with the USB power adapter provided in the box.
iPad will charge with any Apple USB Power Adapter and will also charge,
although more slowly, when attached
Thanks Peter. I will try to keep that in what little mind I have for future

Hi, Ronni and Susan,
Thanks very much for your input. I’m vastly relieved that the problem seems to
be with the USB cord, but I wonder what makes such a thing go bad.
Thanks again!

Yes, cords seem to have recently become problematic.

Hi Peter and Pat,
Genuine Apple cables (and certified 3rd party cables) have a small chip in them
with a small set of code. They will work unless defective. Period.
Then there are 3rd party cables that are not certified. They all fall into a
couple of categories:
1. Cables that use a

Hi Stephen,
Power management in newer Mac products use a VERY LOW POWER sleep mode, almost
to hibernation state. Most external drives can only detect a connection to a
computer when the computer is sending a line level signal via connection cable.
When newer macs enter sleep mode the power is
Hi Ronni - you must have been the WAMUG member who gave me this info about a

And I thank you for that.
I have sleep mode switched off on my iMac since then, so not a problem.
However I always power my iMac off each night and power on again in the morning.
This does not seem to be a
So as far as we are aware there are not yet any portable hard drives that

As far as I am aware Power Nap will not power on a USB drive. When your Mac is
