monitors with Mac’s a bit hit and miss.

Have you tried holding down the option key when selecting the display
resolutions?
Open System Preferences from the Apple menu in Mac OS X
Click on “Display”
Under the ‘Display’ tab, hold down the OPTION / ALT key while you press on the
‘Scaled’ button alongside Resolution to reveal

iMac has been reconfigured with 250 GB SSD, 3TB internal drive and currently
20GB RAM
Currently running El Capitan OSX 10.11.6
