Thanks Rob for this info. It's interesting reading. Did they ever
resolve why the Halo gaming scores were so low? I don't game but know
others who do and these results are significantly lower than the
previous (to the last model) iMac performance, across the board. E.g.
32 fps v 126 fps.
Also performance difference between 2Gb and 4Gb of RAM was very
marginal.

Hi Reg,
With the extra 4GB of RAM that is still cheaper than I paid for the
previous 2.8GHz model with 2GB of RAM. No Ed discount of course.
If you can afford the 750GB drive then grab it but believe me the
500GB is huge! The FW800 port gives excellent opportunity for adding
secondary storage
Thank you to all WAMUGgers who have answered my query re the new iMac
specs. I appreciate your comments.
Now to sit down and do the heart and head sums.

I think it's always been exceptionally cheaper to buy RAM separate
from your Apple purchase but that was when you could keep your
standard RAM chips and add in extra ones yourself. I think the iMac
only has the 2 RAM chips that come preloaded so you'd be replacing 2GB
of RAM if you wanted
Hi Rob
Thanks for your reply.
Maybe I might run VMWare too? But it's all relative really. The base
iMac now must be at least 1000% more capable than Ruby? What about the
3.06?

Hi Graham,
I would be waiting for the new OS in a few weeks and saving some dollars.
Don't forget to ask for a deal at David Jones or JB HiFI. DJs were
including software packs like Office Works before the new models came out.
Possibly will still do similar. All it requires is to ask. DJs at

I'm thinking 20 imac, 2.4GHz, and have a couple of questions

Hi Graham
I was talking to Mike at the Mac shop at Joondalup about the same machine
yesterday. The price is $1698 and he advises I wait for Leopard and the new
iLife around October.
Cheers
