Hi Julie, sorry I don't know anything about MacScan but others here
may be able to comment. I've only used Malwarebytes a couple of times
literally and years ago at that. There may be some online review
comments that help with this understanding.

many years, but also use the free version of Malwarebytes, which detected some
bug in the past, whereas the McScan didn’t.
