Hi Chris, I use mine for this sort of thing all the time. You'll need some sort of hands free device so the phone is not in the drivers hand. The hired GPS will probably talk to you and give turn by turn directions. Go for that if it's what you prefer. They work well and aren't hard to use.

Hi Chris, Ah my home City Melbourne ;-) As Paul has mentioned, the GPS is extremely fast and accurate on the iPhone 4S. Just type Melbourne Airport or Tullamarine Airport Melbourne into search in Maps and it will quickly pinpoint where it is, then you click directions, then route … then Start

Hi Chris Another thing to consider (though a bit dearer), if you were going to pay $15/day for a GPS for the car, would be to look at the TomTom Australia App for iPhone/iPad. It's $75, so may work out dearer,...but then you own it for other trips.

Don't quickly pass over the standard 'Maps' app that comes with the iPhone. Like others have said, its quick, easy free and works great when you have 3G, but is not voice turn by turn. I've heard Melbourne is quite an advanced city, they use street signs too :-) Use the 'Maps' app to give

Yep, that's all I use even, around Perth. It's works really well. It works great when I book a new Appointment for a new client, as long as in iCal I write the address in the Location field (and their phone numbers in the Note field). From Calendar I can simply open it up, see the appointment

Hi Chris, I use the app Metroview on my 4s and find it excellent It's an Australian app and has been written very well. At $15 it represents just 1 day's hire, for something that you will have forever. http://www.metroview.com.au/iphone.html
