Hi Rob, I use a 2 Port Sonnet Firewire 800 Pro ExpressCard|34 giving my MBP 3 FW 800 ports. I don’t turn my MBP off to insert the card. Sonnet do recommend that before inserting the Sonnet card, connect the USB and FireWire cables to it. This will help to prevent the card from popping out
