My son just bought a Brother multifunction unit - BW laser - Officeworks -
Mac and Windows software - works very well. - My own Brother HL1240 laser
has been going for years now. Over 10k pages so far and three replacement
cartridges. Cost of these has just plunged. Cheers, Paul

Well, there are a few hundred members of the ACT Apple Users Group

give her some help finding a second-hand Mac.

File suffix genuine?

2003-07-09 Thread Mervyn Giuliana Bond
A friend forwarded a file with the name SIGNopen.doc.scr
He said he couldn't open it.
I haven't tried as I don't know what the suffix .scr represents.
Any one able to enlighten me please.

It sounds a little suspicious, especially given that Windows can be set so
that it would look like a Word document. A quick search with Google turned
up this page among others:

http://filext.com/detaillist.php?extdetail=SCR

| Many Windows screen savers come with a .SCR extension by default.
| Usually these will be found in the Windows main directory. Use
| caution if you receive a screen saver file via E-mail. These files
| can contain executable code and can be worms or viruses.

Might be worth running a virus-checker or three over the file and your
friend's disk.

Re: Battery Not Charging?

2003-07-09 Thread David de la Hunty

Aurora,

I have been through 3 yoyos. Is yours the one with the thin mains cord
or the thicker one? The thin one cracks at the yoyo-plug end and arcs
there, frying the wire. That's what happened with mine.

I got two replacement cords (eventually!) and the third one I cut open,
resoldered and gaffa taped hugely and so far so good. Are you handy
with a Stanley trimmer and pliers?

iPod Charging

2003-07-09 Thread Dark Servant
My recently bought iPod seems to be in a constant state of charging
when I have it attached to my computer. It always seems to charge even
if I have not used it. It has even said it was fully charged once and
then charged after without me using it.
I'm assuming that it is probably normal behaviour but I would like to
be sure.

Thanks for any input

MS lady uses PowerBook G4

2003-07-09 Thread Phillip McGree
http://www.microsoft.com/net

Gee check out the pic at the top there of the lady sitting on a couch with
a PowerBook G4 in her lap (assuming it hasn't been changed by the time you read
this).

Considering that the PowerBook can't actually use the product that the web page
promotes (ie .net), then perhaps she's using the PowerBook to order a PC that
can use .net?

Nahh.

:-)

Phil
