Re: Joystick for X-Plane 9

2009-12-09 Thread Wendy S. Austin

Ha, thanks Ronni. Yes this warning about Time Machine is mentioned on the
XPlane website but nowhere in their instruction manual so I only read it after
I had set the silly thing up. I guess I will have to go in somehow and make
changes to Time Machine as I do not want to back it up. Grrr.

2009-12-09 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Wendy,

Just go into System Preferences Time Machine.
Turn Time Machine Off
Then click on Options button, click the + button and add a folder to the Do
Not Back Up list ... navigate to the X-Plane installation directory, select
it, and click Exclude
Click Done and turn Time Machine back on.

An International Pilot just cannot completely retire from flying it seems ...
Captain Thomas can fly my plane anytime :-)

Cheers,
Ronni

Mail problem

2009-12-09 Thread John Thompson
This has more than likely been covered a zillion times before so I
apologise before I start.

Mail (Ver 4.1) has for some reason stopped recording the RSS Apple Hot
news items and the spinning activity wheel is no longer showing during
activity, the RSS Mailbox has also disappeared from the top of the
Mailbox list. I have checked through the preferences and can find no
reference to the problems.
Another problem is, occasionally, addresses become corrupted, not all
the time but mainly when calling in a Group to send to.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

Re: Mail problem

2009-12-09 Thread Ronda Brown
Hello John,

Your exact problems have not been covered before that I know of.
In regard to loosing your RSS Apple Hot News, have you tried going to - File
Add RSS Feeds selecting it?

When you mention The spinning activity wheel do you mean the Spinning Beach
Ball (which happens when Mail Hangs) or the Activity Bar that appears under
Mail Activity when mail is sending or receiving?

Re: Your corrupted email addresses. When you see this happen, you could quit
and relaunch Mail application.
You will likely find some files with the word unknown in the filename if you
look in your ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/ folder.
This means that the database was rebuilt automatically, and the application
unfortunately needs to relaunch to correctly read the new data.

Without knowing more of the way you upgraded to Snow Leopard and imported your
email, I cannot give you anything more on why you are experiencing these
problems.

I also notice you have not updated to OS X 10.6.2 which updates Mail to version
4.2 (1077)
I think I would download and install the OS X 10.6.2 Combo Update.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062updatecombo.html

After installing it ... Repair Permissions!

This might repair the corruptions you are experiencing. Post back any results
you have please.

Cheers,
Ronni

iMac wont start - shows a no-entry sign on grey screen

2009-12-09 Thread Matt Falvey

Hi I have just tried to start my intel iMac and it has stopped at a
grey screen with a no-entry sign across the centre and nothing else
happens i.e no noise or any signs of booting up. After a while the
sign disappears the screens becomes a little lighter in colour and it
just sits like that. I had been using it all morning with out any
problems, had not installed anything on it nor deleted any applications.

Any ideas as to what may be wrong?

Hi Matt

Do you have an external HD or the DVD that came with the iMac, if so try
starting from them and let us know what happens.
