Re: Question For Macboook Pro
Hi Rob, I use a 2 Port Sonnet Firewire 800 Pro ExpressCard|34 giving my MBP 3 FW 800 ports. I don’t turn my MBP off to insert the card. Sonnet do recommend that before inserting the Sonnet card, connect the USB and FireWire cables to it. This will help to prevent the card from popping out accidentally; ExpressCard/34 is a push-to-eject design. Also, when there are no drives mounted and the Sonnet card is plugged into your computer, you may turn it off by clicking on its icon in the menu bar and selecting 'Power off Card' from the drop- down menu. I found back in Leopard OS X 10.5 that sometimes the Sonnet FW 800 ExpressCard|34 would not see a device on my MBP. To fix this issue, perform the following steps: 1. Open Network System Preferences 2. Select PCI Firewire Slot ExpressCard 3. Open the “gear” pop-up menu and select ‘Make Service Inactive” 4. Click Apply Cheers, Ronni 17 MacBook Pro 2.3GHz Quad-Core i7 “Thunderbolt 2.3GHz / 8GB / 750GB @ 7200rpm HD OS X 10.7.3 Lion Windows 7 Ultimate (under sufferance) On 02/04/2012, at 7:03 AM, Philip Hoefer wrote: That's the whole point of Express card. Re: Slow URL loading
Thanks once again Ronni, I have followed all your tips, and tips from others and those gleaned from different sites that reference Safari problems. Problem still exists so will have to be content for now sitting and waiting the several minutes for the initial link to open; once that occurs, others open normally until such time as I re-start Safari (Firefox 11 is slightly better but still slower than acceptable). I am not game at the moment Ronni, to attempt a Lion Recovery. Having looked at the recovery site it appears I would have to reset and re-install far too much for me to attempt. Also, since you are running v10.7.3 Lion, you can't reinstall Safari by just redownloading the app from Apple, you have to use Lion Recovery. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718 First, try disabling the Lion resume feature which apparently caches pages way too fast. Open System Preferences General Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps I'm running Lion v10.7.3 with Safar 5.1.5 without any issues what so ever so I hope something works for you. Firefox does work better but still not as rapidly as it should. I keep going back to my Macbook running SL and all is fine. Something has crept into my setup but as yet, I have not been able to isolate it. I had been away for a week and upon returning last Sunday this problem started. When I glanced at the email trail I saw Ronni's specs by mistake and not yours. In any case if there is no problem with Snow Leopard then your internet connection is likely not the problem. Have you had OS X Lion installed for long? There are a number of processes, Spotlight indexing in particular, that run for a some hours after the install. These can slow down the response of the whole system. Yes, I have had Lion for quite some time so the spotlight indexing would not be a problem at this stage. Is your Mac mini connected by Wifi to your router or is it an ethernet cable? Also how is your Macbook connected to the router? Both the Mac Mini and the Macbook are connected by wireless to the Router. I have tried to connect the mini be ethernet direct to the modem and that has not made a difference. Re: Question For Macboook Pro
Hi James, Did you first unmount / dismount the Drive? Hot-Swap functionality enables you to connect and disconnect drives without having to power down your computer. This does not mean you can simply pull out a drive at any time; you must put away (“eject”, “unmount”, “dismount”) the drive volume. Only after the drives are ejected (unmounted) is it safe for you to disconnect the drives or cables. If you do not follow this procedure, data on your drives may be corrupted.
