Hi Brett, If you are syncing “Mail, Contacts Calendars in iCloud … DON’T sync these also in iTunes. To STOP your iPad from syncing in iTunes when you connect it: 1. While connecting the iPad to the computer on a Mac. Hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘ Apple) keys together.

Thanks Ronni, that worked a treat and I was able to connect the iPad without it updating the iPad with the current desktop iCal. May I ask how to update the desktop from the iPad rather than vica versa? It all seems designed to do it one way only... in the Advanced section of Info in the iTunes
