Re: Mac Mini's

2016-06-10 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi John

Remote disk would work as Ronni’s mentioned.
The other way to do it (which may be cheaper in the long run) is an external
USB CD/DVD burner.
Apple sell one for $119, but I tend to sell other brands for my clients which
are a bit cheaper at around $50. It just plugs straight into a USB port and
works the same way as the built in drive.
I say this is probably cheaper as you then don’t have the power running costs
of the other Mac mini and having to ensure the other Mac mini keeps running as
well.
(plus you can then either on-sell the older Mac mini or move it to someone
else).

Hope that helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Hello John,

Just a quick reply as rushing to an appointment. You can use Remote Disc
feature.

Use the CD or DVD drive from another computer with your Mac
The Remote Disc feature of OS X lets you use files stored on a CD or DVD hosted
from another computer.

Kind regards,
Ronni

Mac Mini's

2016-06-10 Thread John Thompson
Good Morning List,

My primary computer is a 7-year old Mac Mini, still going strong and
runniong the latest upgrades but is a little slow in a lot of areas. I have
been thinking of updating to the latest model for a while now but the newer
machines do not come with the optical drive (DVD/CD reader/writer).

My question to the list, is it feasible to link the two Mini’s and
utilise the optical drive and storage on the older one whilst using the new one
as the main computer?

Thanks for any comments.
