Firewire 800 port not working

2017-09-26 Thread Matt Falvey
Hi Ronni, sorry for taking so long Telstra have just finished reconnecting us
to the world after 5 days.

I tried reseting the SMC and then the PRAM on startup and the problem still
occurred.

As I had 5 days to think things over I went through my mind as to what had I
changed since I started using the iMac and the occurrence of the FW 800 not
working.

The only thing I could think of was that I started to use, virtually
exclusively, Path Finder.

So I closed Path Finder down, did the SMC and PRAM the connected the 1GB backup
External HD and it showed up! (I quickly backed everything up while it was
there)

I was on a roll, so I ejected that and connected the 1.5GB movie file External
HD and that did not show up?

I disconnected it and did an SMC and PRAM and connected it, no show. Did the
same and switched cables from the 1GB to the 1.5GB, no show.

Then connected the 1.5GB External HD to the 20” iMac and it showed up with both
sets of cables

So now it seems as if I can get one External HD to work but not the other

Thanks

Matt.

Re: No startup chime !!!!!

2017-09-26 Thread Ronda Brown
Yes Apple is making some changes that I’m sure Steve Jobs would not approve of
and one is the Startup Chime!

I did forget to add in my reply to Stephen that...
…. *The only exception is MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017), which does have a
startup chime.

Re: No startup chime !!!!!

2017-09-26 Thread Daniel Kerr
Yes, I’d like the option at least to turn on or off the startup chime. I miss
it on both my new iMac and laptop! At least let me have the option to choose if
I want it or not!
It’s something that’s always been there! (they even wrote it into the WALL•E
movie when he started up from charging,…it was an Apple startup chime!!)

They said “no, we won’t change Apple from how Steve had it”,..but surely that’s
something that’s always been there since day dot (well close to it) which he
always had. And yet they go and remove/change it! I wish it could be added
back. Oh well.
I’ll go sit back in my corner now,….

Kind regards
Daniel

Hi Stephen,

Mac models from early 2016 and earlier make a chime sound when they start up.
Mac models from late 2016 and later don't have a startup chime.*
